Out of the Blue

One of the upsides of not getting out to see many movies in the theaters is that the hubbubs surrounding their releases usually have died down by the time they show up on cable, and it's easier to avoid being influenced by extremely positive or negative reviews. This, combined with simple curiosity, often makes me look forward to movies considered stinkers as much as anything. Well, Battlefield Earth, whose poor reviews certainly made it a candidate for such a viewing, debuted on HBO this weekend, and for the first time ever, my sole reaction is my least favorite cop-out movie review cliché of all time, as I find myself resentful that I will never get those two hours of my life back. Ouch!

Story of the Day: Genital-biting fish terrorise village (Herald Sun). Village? Hell, that headline has me terrorized (or the more British terrorised in this case) half-way around the world! Thanks RodentX.
Bonus Story: Microsoft Dictionary Sports Odd Definitions (Fox). Thanks theAntiELVIS. The information age takes a step backwards.

My search for Seach!(tm) using the Search!(tm) box has returned no results.

Looking on this search on google:

http://www.google.com/search?q=seach%21%28tm%29&sourceid=opera&num=0

Also doesn't return much useful info, could you enlighten me to the use of the Seach!(tm) function?

Yes, I am a fool.

I've seen another thing that says "All your base are belong to us". What the hell does that mean?

Why don't you try typing "all your base" into the Seach!(tm) box?

Battlefield Earth was a wonderful movie and I hope they make 1 or 2 sequels. And I'm Richard Nixon.

My shirts arrived (in Washington State) today and they are cool. Actually, since it's over 100 degrees right now I don't think a dark heavy t-shirt with a big patch of rubber on the back would be all that cool, but then what is? Maybe the the river... hey that sounds like a plan - later.

I don't understand how this can be? The movie sold like hotcakes in every store within walking distance of a Christian Science reading room. Of course most people who bought it got 5 or more copies.

However, having read the book I think it is safe to say that Mr. Hubbard must have been rolling in his grave to see the followers of his tax write off ruin such a good story.

Posting annonymously to avoid potential legal action by the CoS.

You know, I keep on wanting to see this movie.

Er...I don't want to actually see the movie so much as I want to see if any one movie can be as bas as they say.

Wondering how bad any one movie can be ^_^,
Ray

> I actually fell asleep

I am so jealous. I was tricked into seeing this movie as well (by an ex-CoS member who, btw, saw & loved it for the second time!) and because the sound was so loud, I couldn't get asleep. And trust me: I really, really wanted to sleep that one out...

Did anybody else notice the part about "leverage" resurfacing a lot during the movie? That's coming out of the closet for you, Mr. Hubbard...

Sigh, I wish MST3K was still making new episodes. A movie like Battlefield Earth would probably make a great episode. At least then we could get *some* use out of all the money that was spent on that awful flick.

"All your language are belong to us!" I like that part about including Bill Gate's picture but not JFK's... typical
And the fish thing is interesting- as far as I was aware, Pacu are vegetarian, so they shouldn't be biting off anyone's private parts...

I too regret the time it took to watch B.E. Johnny boy's acting was some of the worst ever put to film. Ouch indeed.

I can only sympathise with you on this one. I got conned into seeing it in the theatre! I actually fell asleep in a crowded (not sure why) theatre during this so-called movie. I have absolutely no hesitation in saying this is the absolute worst movie I have ever seen.

Should I be embarrassed to say I expected the worst movie
because of the reviews and was pleasantly pleased?
OK...my head is hanging in shame.

I've got that beat. Not only did I see Battlefield Earth for the first time on Sunday... but I had just finished watching the Dungeons & Dragons movie on pay-per-view.

Believe it or not, B.E. was almost watchable by comparison. I want my 4 hours back.
