Star Citizen Free Fly Event

Cloud Imperium Games announces the Intergalactic Aerospace Expo is now underway, a virtual showroom of spacecraft from Star Citizen and Squadron 42, the crowdfunded space exploration games. This leans into the car dealership mechanic, as virtual ship sales have been a big part of the crowdfunding that's kept the games in development for well over a decade. But besides showing off and selling these ships, there are test-drives to be had in another Free Fly Event. This means almost everything on display is available to fly or drive for free between now and the end of the month. Here's a trailer and word:
During the Intergalactic Aerospace Expo, anyone can explore Star Citizen's incredible Persistent Universe for free. Even if you don't have a Star Citizen Game Package, you can try it for free and fly to the in-game event in style with Drake's new starter ship, the Cutter, which we're loaning to all players for free for the duration of the event.

Starting on November 17 (4pm UTC), each day a different ship manufacturer will take over one of the expo halls for 48 hours. There's something new to see every day, and nearly everything on display is available to test-fly for free!

Well, I couldn't believe the ship insurance thingy was real, so I looked it up: https://support.robertsspaceindustries.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000093467-Ship-Insurance-FAQs

Today in test mode everyone has non-expiring insurance, but when it goes live you will have to be regularly purchasing insurance unless you get a lifetime plan. The realism in this game is going to be unprecedented. The way they are going to squeeze the money out of people also. To think you could spend $4000 on DLC and just lose it from playing the game. Ridiculous.
Why stop at insurance? Why not go all the way, property taxes, income taxes, sales taxes. Let's go!

Maybe the true Star Citizens were the friends we scammed along the way?

Sounds like SQ42 is much further along.

I kinda wish I could just laugh at the hilarity of this but it's just so sad that people are so deep in this scam that they just keep digging into this grave. I'm not sure really how to respond and am honestly scared that this type of consumer f**kery will spread. Here's hoping that the whole thing just implodes and the fools learn a costly lesson before it gets worse. We all know the game will never come out but I just wish it would so everyone can just move on. This game will truly be seen as 1 of the greatest scams of all time and a key pointer in just how dumb this part of the human timeline is...

I can see the history classes of the future explaining... this was the generation that boiled their oceans, littered their clean water, filled their air with toxic fumes, broke human communication and any semblance of democracy, allowed companies to take control of almost every facet of their lives, and wasted all their money on NFTs, crypto, and video games that never came into existence. All so they could live for themselves and not care a drop about the future. It was truly an incomprehensible time and a lesson for all future generations on how not to live.

Ive been playing Starfield and it is TOTAL TRASH. there is not one single thing star citizen needs to add from Starfield. The graphics are sub par, the animations suck, the quests are shallow and lame, the world is FAKE AS HELL. there is no real depth there at all. There is no actual space travel. the plants are not real, none of your choices mean anything they are fake. The exploration is the same 3 things over and over on planets other people have already been there because there are the same exact 3 abandoned structures on every single planet. there are not even any physics in the game, If i had paid for this i would be PISSED. fortunately its included in game pass.

There is litterally nothing at all good about Starfield.

And yet you were dumb enough to buy it?

Star Citizen is 1000x the game starfield .

Oh, well. That answers my question above.

Lol, every Star Citizen thread I get reminded how crazy you guys are. The game is pretty awesome right now, there is simply nothing like it. And yet every time it is mentioned here there are 30+ vitriol filled comments, usually very strong opinions formed on a firm base of ignorance.

The game is free to try at the moment, why don't you guys just try it out?

I think it's mostly fair criticism, but I'm one of the people waiting in the wings, hoping that someday a finished and fun product comes out. The original pitch was a dream game for me. That said, I've played a lot of unfinished yet fun games. I'm glad you're enjoying it even with all the insanity that surrounds it.

I wouldnt even dream of backing this game, way to overpromising , and this whole space sim thing isnt really for me anyway, but that tech/engine demo fly-by thing from a couple of weeks ago was pretty darn impressive.

I backed it a long, long time ago for SQ42 and so have access to it. I played it a little over a month ago.

If by "nothing like it" you mean poorly optimized garbage with bugs that would make Bethesda feel good about themselves, I would wholeheartedly agree with you. If you mean Chris Roberts the Con Man (allegedly in my opinion) making promises that would cause Peter Molyneux to blush, I would again agree with you. If you mean an obvious grift, there I will disagree with you. There are grifts aplenty in this world.

Roberts said that SQ42 was feature complete. If so, release it. Give a release data for it and stick to it. No bullshit, no hemming and hawing, just a firm release date. The fact that there isn't one belies that this is just one lie among the hundreds already told.

Now, this is what I will say about Star Citizen: it is boring. Half of my time is spent fucking walking. I say that as someone who loves the X series of games and, truth be told, sometimes those games are as exciting as watching paint dry on growing grass. My tolerance for boredom is quite high and yet, somehow, Scam Citizen manages to cross that threshold.

Scam Citizen, and Cloud Imperium, deserve every bit of scorn and vitriol heaped upon it. It's a vaporware product (as in a not released product) that is hyped constantly, with ridiculously large whale bait, and trailers that look more dated than a Members Only Club jacket.
