Really enjoying the game. I have to admit... the changing the scene mechanic is incredibly cool, and I'm impressed how seamless it works with changing things.

I'll put the below in spoilers.
But I found it hilarious that Alan's first words upon reaching the ?real? world and being asked who he is "My name is Alan Wake. I'm a writer."

Playing on my 2080ti at max settings without raytracing, and the game looks great. Get about 40fps.Smooth enough that I'm not bothered by it. I do want to eventually get a 4080 (maybe the super if that comes out as rumored), as the ray tracing med-high settings do reflections in things like mirrors better (the non-raytraced reflections are like Control where they're just this odd blurry reflection)

My only complaint about the game so far is the annoying red border effect when you're in critical health. If you've played Control, its like that but about 10x worse. It feels like when it's at it's most powerful, it blocks like 1/4 of the screen from being visible, and the blazing red glow doesn't help the rest of the screen.

I know it’s complicated that an Epic Games game is on the Epic Games store, but if you all try real hard you might understand at least that.
I scrolled down and I don't think anyone is not understanding that, they just don't care for Epic Games Store. You sound like you're putting words in people's mouths.

Bought this on the series x yesterday and now I want to pause Spiderman 2. The first chapter was very slow but did an amazing job setting the stage.

Amazing how fast Epic Game Store makes me disinterested.

People HATED Steam back in the day too

lol

Steam was one of the later steps in the always-escalating DRM/copy-protection warfare. It started with codewheels and then cd-keys and online checks at the start of a game to full online multiplayer "single-player" games like Diablo IV. The next step will be streamed contents only without any local installations.

I know what you mean...Let's hope not...;) Google's effort towards that end has failed, and that's a good thing. With Stadia, you still had to buy the games at full retail pop--in order to stream them! On top of full retail pricing, you had to pay a monthly for the Stadia streaming service itself. What a deal killer--at least for me. It never attracted me. In the beginning, I was not enamored with Steam, myself. In the early days, it would take days to download a game. I liked boxed games with nice manuals.

These days, I've come around to appreciate the instantaneous release of games I can grab quickly--fast Internet access--it appeals heavily to my lazy streak. But to be honest, I buy everything I can from GOG these days where I can avoid DRM completely, but I still use Steam since some publishers don't release to GOG because they want to inflict some kind of DRM on their paying customers. A fair number of Steam games don't require that Steamworks be running and can be run directly from the exe just like all GOG games can be run now. Witcher 3 and some other AAA games on Steam came with no DRM. But GOG takes a principled stand on the matter, which is why out of a library of ~400+ games, about 15% are Steam--the rest GOG. GOG is also dogmatic about allowing you to make archived backup copies of your games if you want. Steam is supposed to be instituting a system where you can create installable backups of your Steam games, but it is far from universal for Steam games at this time, with no assurances that it ever will be, from what I read. Epic seems to be following the lead of Steam--if the publisher wants DRM he gets it.

People object to the exclusivity deals from EPIC, but it's the publisher/developer who takes those deals, which are often accompanied by a discount to the customer, too. Nothing stands in the way of Steam doing likewise. If there's a new discounted game I want on EPIC, but Steam doesn't mirror the discount, EPIC wins--and so do I...;)
It is well known that I cannot err--and so, if you should happen across an error in anything I have written you can be absolutely sure that *I* did not write it!...;)

Not complaining. I don't like exclusivity but there's a thousand things that game companies do that I don't like. Just throw this one on the pile.

hmmm, epic games publishing, that means they put up a lot of money to get the game made, and so a lot of people are complaining that it’s not on steam, who has no skin in the game. But why should they take any risks, when they would rather just collect 30%?
You would think a Monopoly like steam would file a lawsuit to prevent Epic exclusivity.

That's one of the reasons I have a huge backlog. When gaming becomes only streaming, I am out. I already have enough games to keep me busy til I die, and then my ghost will still be busy.
And suck less at gaming
