Bethesda's Pete Hines Retiring

With Starfield launched and out of Earth orbit, Pete Hines of Bethesda Xs that he's soon to be Pete Hines formerly of Bethesda, as he gears up to leave his post as head of publishing at the Microsoft-owned developer/publisher. Here's his message:
After 24 years, I have decided my time at Bethesda Softworks has come to an end. I am retiring and will begin an exciting new chapter of my life exploring interests and passions, donating my time where I can, and taking more time to enjoy life. This was not a decision I came to easily or quickly, but after an amazing career, culminating in the incredible launch of Starfield, it feels like the time is right.

This is certainly not goodbye by any means. My love of Bethesda and its people has never wavered, and I will never stop being part of this incredible community we have grown. Thank you to the hundreds and thousands of fans I've gotten to meet and talk to over the last 24 years. Your energy, creativity, and support has been such a big part of my journey. I forward to experiencing the next part of the adventure alongside you.

Working with the amazing people, teams, and studios at Bethesda has been the greatest experience of my life. I'm incredibly proud of everything we have done together, and I'm genuinely excited to see the amazing things they will create next.

I think that Starfield true value is emerging, a space exploration game without exploration: no sense of traveling or discovery, just menu hoppings.

Reusing the same buildings and bases on many planets, filling every location with heaps of idiotic things, go find what may be useful among all the trash.
Cold and schematic interactions.

Look at your off-puttingly ugly robot servant Vasco:
It could have been an alluring or funny friend, but no, an impersonal misshapen pile of square boxes on 2 giant legs is our considered choice.

They missed the mark badly, or lost their edge.
This could have been the Elder Scrolls 6 with a far better outcome.

Update october,18:
Another day another loss: 64% Steam score for the last 30 days.

I was curious because you mentioned it more than once. I haven't played it yet - waiting for mods myself.

Massive Steam scores are a fine indicator of a game state (except review bombing campaigns and a Steam option eliminates them till they end).

Please note "massive".
If that isn't available I value individual well written and conceptual ones.

A great number of games owned, much higher than the number of reviews, is a good hint.

With these and other precautions, review scores are most useful in my experience.

Also many times, reviews advise you about bugs, fixes, tactics, a veritable wealth of info.

Furthermore, I really enjoy many, out of thousands read, from perceptive to outrageous or funny.

Example:
Cyberpunk 2077 has been steadily soaring and diluting old negative scores (they don't stop being counted as negative unless a reviewer changes his vote) to an actual *very positive* now.

Just with Morrowind alone, that's a life achievement award for me.
Enjoy your life Pete !

On another note,

Starfield last 30 days Steam score is down to a Bethesda main title unprecedented 65%, what !.

Mayday, main thrusters failing !

Why are you so captivated by user scores?

Starfailed confirmed. It will be interesting to see how many more people will be fired in the coming weeks and months. Is Phil gonna have the balls to toss Todd the pink slip?

Ol' Pete did his best. I wish him well in his (well funded) retirement.

Be careful what you wish for. I hear Bobby Kotick will soon be available for the job.
