I imagine that, to them, the difference is that this is some expensive piece of hardware requiring expensive invasive surgery that will not be widely utilized like vaccines or national alerts or wifi, so it doesn't work with their conspiracy theories which tend towards mass population control.

On one hand, you take away Musk's involvement, and this could eventually lead to improved life for the physically disabled. On the the other hand, I don't think brain implants will ever work because electrodes and wires just aren't compatible with the brain. If something like this ever works out in the future it will likely involve nano tech or biological interfaces.

There is a shit-ton of highly developed neural pathways already in humans to and from the brain to the extremities, especially the hands. I'm all for exploring new forms man-machine interface, but I think success lies in working with biology, not against it.

It's sad to read such comments because I've read many comments about paralyzed people regaining some functionality with such implants. It makes me feel like we're not getting the full story and that these volunteers end up in a bad way.
