Actually agree. I don't like Batman. Just not my thing. But the Arkham games were excellent fun. Or at least the first two, I never got around to the last couple.

Spiderman is not that simple, it is different from other marvel games since sony licenses the IP and is responsible for creating a lot of the content.

If someone thinks that the singleplayer\co-op was sufficient then that is fine. I am only giving my personal opinion. I absolutely did not like the singleplayer or the co-op at all. I am not a developer, but it would be extremely difficult to convince me that the singleplayer wasn't so lackluster explicitly because they spent much - if not most - development time on making the live service component. I don't see how that it is possible barring that they are so bad at making games that they made a far worse looter shooter than games that came out a very long time ago. They would have had to have learned nothing despite many examples of what to do and not to do. Given that Anthem sucked for precisely the same reason is even more evidence. The live-service (focusing on monetization and player retention) clearly was made to be the most important thing, and the singleplayer and co-op almost certainly suffered because of it. So yeah, I hate that live service bullshit was crammed into it - I put the blame squarely on decisions made far above any of the developers who worked on it.

Marvel Snap is a nice game. Yeah some pay to win but a very solid card game.

The Lego games have been good, Avengers was a pretty solid single player game, and apparently Guardians was gun.

I don't know - when I was a kid I liked the hero regardless of how they drew his or her secret identity. The hero, not the actor, should matter. It seems to me like something was lost when we started buying into the cult of personality and everyone started thinking that the hero, instead of worrying about them being true to how they were conceived, has to be forever tied to the actor who played them in the movie.

I completely agree, personally I could care less who the actor is in whatever silly movie they created and if the hero looks like the actor. These heroes are far removed from celebrity BS and hollywood for me, since I read about many of these heroes in the old comics. I'm sure there are some youngins that care more about celebrities but I would hope the more important aspect is a good game and not some live service garbage... then again I seem to be the minority in just about every mindset/opinion so it's likely the case here as well

It's a relief that someone agrees with me. Now it's 2 versus the entire population of planet Earth instead of just me. 😁

That's actually really cool, though it sounds like there's still a lot of work to be done before it's fully playable. I will try to keep an eye on that, thanks.

They've got several issues against them. Agent.X7 already pointed out a couple.

One I personally see holding them back is the failure to secure the rights to actors' likenesses for the games. This leads to the cover art and screenshots/videos looking like dollar-store knockoffs. No one pays full price for a cheap imitation.

Insomniac's Spider-man gets a pass on this because we're all quite used to Peter's face changing. Hell, his face changed IN the game from the base version to the enhanced one. Sure, some people got annoyed but generally, NO ONE CARES because it's almost become canon that Peter just...changes. If the next live-action Spider-man had yet another guy playing him, it would surprise zero people, and wouldn't harm ticket sales.

The actors Marvel has chosen for their characters have been inexorably linked to the characters themselves. Casual fans see Thor as Chris Hemsworth, and anyone else would feel like a sad imitation. Zoe Saldana IS Gamora. Their not-dissimilar-enough knockoffs in the games make them feel like Marvel didn't *really* believe the games were worth doing.

I understand WHY they don't do it, but the general public doesn't CARE about why.

Easy fix: Stop trying to make games as a service and make great single player games.
Weird that Insomniac can make such a fantastic Spider-Man game when allowed to make a game the way they want. Now they're also working on a Wolverine game and...I forget what the other Marvel property is. But I bet they will great too.
But yet, when you direct Crystal Dynamics to make a game as a service so you can micro-transaction players to death, it bombs.
Funny. It's almost like the majority of gamers don't like that shit. You can't charge full price for a game where you expect us to then fork over more and more money to get new stuff. You wanna be Fortnite? Then the base game is free. You wanna be Spider-Man, then you make a full game for full price, and maybe you can sell a DLC expansion later. Of course, you also need compelling gameplay. For $70, "meh, it's alright" doesn't cut it.
