Out of the Blue

Well, the Major League Baseball season is officially over. Best of luck to fans of teams that are part of the playoffs, which get underway tomorrow. As for my New York Metropolitans, the team with highest payroll in baseball fired its manager, and introduces a new team president today as we embark on a rebuilding program. It's not that hard to see why the Mets are where they are right now, but it's even easier to just mock them. So to recap: The Mets stink, the Mets are rebuilding, people are mocking the Mets. As the great pundit of baseball Yogi Berra put it, it's like déjà vu all over again.

Oh, I forgot the Nets... I'm guessing they haven't done anything worth mentioning since the Harden/Duran fiasco?

I don't follow basketball. Beyond knowing about the greats like Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Kareem, Koby, Curry, Lebron James, et al, I know very little.

The Rangers are an exciting team when they want to be. The NHL season can't start soon enough.

Well, I gave up on baseball after 1994, but I am a NFL fan. However, I made the mistake of thinking about the links instead of Blue's comment.

I'm not sure who is worse the Giants or the Jets. Neither the Yankees or the Mets have been relevant for a while. Well, you always have the Knicks, oh wait. New York -- sports desert.

Which thing are you attempting to distance yourself from? I too was born in New York, but only lived there like the first year of my life. Only been back there once when I was 18 to attend the wedding of the only other male family member of our generation with the family name. My family in general has been doing its part in trying to keep the world population down...

If you were a football and baseball fan you wouldn't have to ask. UGH.

Of course I am kidding. Despite the Giants being the worst team in the league this year, the Jets far and away the biggest disappointment this year, the Yankees not even coming close to being even a mild threat, and the Mets... being the Mets, I still have been pretty spoiled when I've seen so many great years in New York sports. It's just the bad years in between are really, REALLY bad.

RIP Tim Wakefield. Curt Schilling looking like a horrible monster of a human.
He does indeed.
Curt even acknowledged "I don't even know if he wants it shared," but explained he was Christian and remarked ... "I've seen prayer work and so I'm going to talk about it."
And that bit of nonsense he gets the David Cross award.

Another dick move by Schilling, but the writer of this article chose to be part of the echo chamber. They don't get to blame Schilling without being culpable themselves. Both of them did exactly what the family did not want. Anyway, RIP.

Was at the Mets Phillies game Sat night. It was amazing to see Mets actually on fire the whole game since the Phillies were resting main pitchers. Mets were awful this year but just went to have a beer and a few laughs with friends. Tickets on Stubhub were $5. Good times.

As someone with a Lego addiction, Lego is VERY good at announcing things that they then either never do or that they take forever to implement. Years ago they announced they would be discontinuing plastic bags in their sets. Two years ago they started printing instruction books with announcements that the bags are all going to be paper. They have made one set, to my knowledge, that comes with ONE paper bag - The giant whale from the Avatar sequel. That's it. This year, the Lego Marvel collectible minifigures are finally in a cardboard box instead of a plastic bag. Everything else is still plastic bags. For a company that makes billions, they kind of suck. Par for the course, I guess.
