We've been blessed with being able to actually see the game and give some feedback. We've been meeting with Rockstar and looking at Max [Payne] 3 – it looks absolutely phenomenal – the nice thing is we've been giving our feeling on the game but at the end of the day we don't have to do any of the heavy lifting, which is nice. Rockstar don't make bad games, so you already know it's going to be good. Just like we hope the Remedy brand is a seal of quality, you know that Rockstar's brand is a seal of quality. It's been nice to be part of the process, but we don't want to take any of the limelight. From what we've seen it's going to be absolutely fantastic.

Sounds like a classic PR pitch when you've been paid a huge amount of money and you just want to rubber stamp the work and move along.

Considering that literally none of their games have been straight forward shooters like Max Payne 3...I'm doubtful that they were anywhere near as thrilled with how it turned out as the quote is making it seem.

We'll see how these remakes turn out though. Max Payne 1 and especially 2 were hallmarks of what I would consider good single player games.

I remember really enjoying Max Payne 2 when it was released. I have not played it since and it certainly was not as memorable as the first. Max Payne 3 was the one I struggled to finish a couple times.

The action in 3 was still awesome, but they lost too much of the noir feel that made the first two great. If you don't keenly understand what makes a Max Payne game, you're probably not the best choice to make the game.

I agree, but Remedy are the ones who decided to sell the IP. Well, technically that happened even before Max Payne 2 and they were given free reign there, but it was a commercial flop so they lost 2K's trust. They were allowed to consult on MP3 and enthusiastically signed off on it, though...

Why wouldn't they use the same voice?

I mean I hope they do. But they didn't answer the interviewer's question, which worries me. Also, I don't know if I could handle it if Max didn't look like he just smelled 3 month-old sweaty gym socks. 😁
Sam was answering a question about whether he would be the face. Sam isn't the voice actor lol.
They've been working with James McCaffrey, Max's voice, in their recent games, including Alan Wake 2.

Well that is awesome then. I was kidding about the facial expression. Sort of. I get that they probably won't make it the same, but let the game be moddable so it can be put in, or make it a cheat code. 🙂

Sam has to be the face or it isn't Max. Period.

That was a remaster. Touched up version of what's already out there so it will work and be a little more pretty on modern systems.

I remember joking around about how the original Max Payne had an expression like he was constipated and trying to take dump. I hope they keep that expression in the remake, but with more polys and 4k

I saved all the money I earned doing a summer car wash gig for my highschool to buy the original Max Payne. I was so hyped for it. Needless to say, it didn't disappoint. In fact, it was such a surreal experience to play, I couldn't believe games got to that point when it had come out.

Yeah it does. The original voice of the character made the game for me...well it was one of the things that made the game for me. Next was the eerie noir setting with all of its weird tie-ins to the game world. Actually I played the games for that very weirdness above all else.

That's why the third was such a let down. Those people had no idea what made Max Payne Max Payne.

Remakes huh? I would assume different voice actors then? That worries me.
