As long as the game has full keyboard and mouse control with great camera control then I'll be happy. Getting really tired of remakes though. Give us all three games for $20-$30 and I won't complain.

I believe you are actually referring to Tomb Raider: Anniversary.

If so it was more of a reboot than a straight-up remaster if I remember correctly.
It was a full-on remake using the same visual style and gameplay mechanics of Legend. Legend was released first, then Anniversary, then Underworld.

I don't know why I said reboot - remake is a much better descriptor. There hasn't been a shot-for-shot remaster of any of the first 3.

what is the point of remastering to have only slightly better shitty graphics?

Stay awhile and listen, to the lineup around the computer store to buy a Voodoo 3DFX.
Tomb Raider led this gamechanging PC landscape, closely followed by Quake.

I've been going back and playing some PSX games since it got added to MiSTer, and Tomb Raider has been among the games that held up the worst. It controls like Resident Evil, but rather than constructing a slow-paced survival horror game around those controls (which I found still worked pretty well!), they tried to make a platformer. The game is just asking for more from the controls than they are capable of delivering. Even lining up Lara to pull a switch or pick up a health pack is an exercise in frustration.

I imagine they'll fix those control issues for these remasters, but I'm not sure that the game won't just be boring then.

Yeah exactly. While they may have been revolutionary for their time, those controls were damn awful. Rotating in place and then basically accelerating forward or reversing. If a car had wheels that could make it rotate in place, that would be like controlling Lara. That and then trying to do platforming provided plenty of stupid falling deaths.

Still, as rough as it was, I recall going to a buddy's house to play it on his Playstation when I had Super Mario 64 at that time. I thought, damn, Playstation has some adult looking games and I also enjoyed the opening CGI intro with the wolves. Just felt badass in comparison to my Mario and Peach in a colorful looking world, lol. I wanted a Playstation from that point forward, but never got one.

Though yeah, graphically, these remind me of Legends. I had fun with that game way back in the day. I know these aren't NextGen graphic updates, but I think they're enough to make people who haven't played them try them out and not have to deal with the horrendous classic controls.

I replayed about 2/3 of Tomb Raider 1 about a month ago.

The controls are *really* rough. Even if they keep the overall grid movement system, it's going to be a hard sell if they don't make it more responsive.

I now understand they were quite limited in what they can change if they wanted a real time toggle between the hd and remaster mode, but I just cringe at the old lara croft model. It was clearly a busty girl but limited to the graphics at the time. I mean this is first generation real time 3d. Much like ff7... when remastered it should have totally shelved the old character design because it was clear it was limited by the hardware. It isn't even the bust size that gets me, its the plain legs and the clothing, her awkward giant lips, as someone who loves his iconic character designs this one should have been burned.

The point is: $$$
Ease of use. Can be a hassle trying to get older games working on modern systems for some.
A second go, so yes, $$$, but also a new way to re-experience the original.
Hammering out as many of the original bugs and glitches to get the game as close to ideal as possible after 20 years or so of 'well this might work better here' or 'man I wish that was patched out.'
