Starfield DLSS and Mod Support Plans

A post on Steam has details on a new version 1.7.29 hotfix for Starfield, Bethesda Softworks' sci-fi RPG. There's also news that this first update will soon be followed by regular progression of patches to address issues raised by the community. Word is upcoming changes will add NVIDIA DLSS support to the AMD-sponsored game, and that full modification support will come early next year:
This first update is a small hotfix targeted at the few top issues were are seeing. After that, expect a regular interval of updates that have top community requested features including:

  • Brightness and Contrast controls
  • HDR Calibration Menu
  • FOV Slider
  • Nvidia DLSS Support (PC)
  • 32:9 Ultrawide Monitor Support (PC)
  • Eat button for food!

We’re also working closely with Nvidia, AMD, and Intel on driver support, and each update will include new stability and performance improvements.

Additionally, we are working on our built-in mod support (Creations) that will work across all platforms similar to what we’ve done with Skyrim and Fallout 4. This full support is planned to launch early next year. Until then, we know our PC community is already very active in the modding space and if you have any feedback on how we can make this better, please let us know . Modding and creating in our games will always be a vital and important part of who we are, and we love seeing the community get off to such a strong start.

No FOV slider isn't as big a deal as you think...but alas, you can't go a single Starfield post without spouting nonsense.

I play on PC with a monitor a couple feet away. Low FOV's make me absolutely nauseous -- and there have been several console ports I've been unable to play because of it. So, yes, for some us being able to increase the FOV is incredibly important.
You can adjust the FOV in the INIs fairly simply...yes, having a slider is a nice QoL change, but it's not really necessary in *this* game, which is what I'm focusing on, not a general view for games.

The gap is as high as 46% actually, which is pretty staggering. I dunno if there was a "conspiracy", but performance disparities like that don't just go unnoticed.

It is ~46% only when ray-tracing is involved. Starfield does not use RT (at AMD's "request" Wink because it was planned originally according to dev comments... but then AMD happened).

In pure rasterization, the RTX 4090 should be +30% ahead of the RX 7900 XTX if no sabotage is involved. However, in Starfield the RX 7900 XTX is on par or even slightly ahead of the RTX 4090. It's highly amusing how people keep defending this as perfectly normal .
Um, SF doesn't use RT, so how were their tests wrong because of a feature that the game doesn't even use? You don't make any sense.

Why? AMD themselves said them adding DLSS support was fine, so were they lying about that?
That’s probably a lie. RogueSix has all the details regarding the FACT that Bethesda/AMD are actively sabotaging every poor Nvidia/Intel user in Starfield. Ask him for a collection of links to prove this…

Also, in the distant future, apparently Adhesive is the single rarest item in the universe.

A quick fix is to go to New Homestead, in the shop there he sells 10 adhesive. You can then sit in the shop and wait 24 hours for his inventory to refresh.

At least you've stopped with the conspiracy that AMD/Bethesda sabotaged Nvidia/Intel...

Actually, I just have not mentioned it specifically (what an omission! ) since it is an established FACT by now. Everyone knows why nVidia is underperforming here compared to 99.xx% of other games where the RTX 4090 is ~30% faster than the RX 7900 XTX.

Facts do not have to be repeated in every post. Facts are just facts. They are indisputable and speak for themselves.

As I said, I'm glad that AMD have apparently loosened the chain on Bethesda and are allowing them to optimize for nVidia now. We'll see if they can/will close the entire 30%+ gap but these news here are at least a start...

Good to see that AMD has agreed to unfuck Starfield for nVidia owners .

No FoV slider in a 2023 AAA game at release is an unforgivable crime but better late than never. Oh, and apparently they have also added trading cards as I have just received my first ones.

Glad to see that customers are giving them the appropriate feedback. The game is still only 'mostly positive' (and hopefully soon 'mixed') on Steam. That's about all that Bethesda/Microsoft/AMD deserve for this shitshow.

And there is plenty of duct tape around, but unlike FO4, it doesn't count as adhesive. I guess it's gotta be digital high-tech adhesive.

Adhesive is one of the most common organic materials in the game, you just need to spend a little time finding a planet with creatures that produce it. After that, you can either run around slaughtering them yourself, or get the zoologist perk to start a glue farm on an outpost. Either way, it won't be long before you're swimming in it.

With that said, I was disappointed at first to discover that hoarding duct tape is not a thing anymore, lol.

I never used that storage container, but all crafting stations definitely pull resources from your ship. Do just a few of the Constellation missions and you'll find the opportunity to get a brand new, very nice ship for free, with a starting cargo capacity in the thousands. (Hint: the rich old guy co-owns one of the manufacturers.)

Yeah, I get what you are saying, BUT!!! When your biggest fan user base is using NVidia Cards, you better come up with some kind of support to keep them happy. In all honesty, I would not go and buy a AMD card just because they are sponsoring the game with FSR.

That's Ludacris thinking if you do think that way.

I guess I wait until "early next year" to buy. Not because I want to use Creations but because it will most likely change the way most existing mods will work in some way, so waiting for a sale after that particular point in time sounds like a good time to dive in. Nice, that gives me time to finish with BG3.....which I also haven't had time to buy and play yet.
