Cyberpunk 2077 Cooling Warning

CD PROJEKT RED programmer Filip Pierściński Xs a warning for Cyberpunk 2077 players that whatever strain the sci-fi RPG places on your system already is not as bad as it will be after installing the upcoming version 2.0 patch and Project Liberty expansion. Prospective players are advised to take their rigs on shakedown cruises to make sure their cooling systems are up to the challenge:
Before release CP2077 2.0 and PL please check conditions of your cooling systems in PC. We use all what you have, so workload on CPU 90% on 8 core is expected. To save your time please run Cinebench or similar and check stability of your systems 😉

Of course not. CDPR is the best example for a „fool me once…“ situation.

For that to be true, they'd have had to misled people more than once, has that actually been the case?

Besides, CP2077 IS a fun game now, played through it a couple months ago and really enjoyed it, very few games, and none of them were major.

I use HWMonitor because you just download a zip, extract, and then put the utility anywhere. No need for an installer, or any of that .NET crap, etc.

Of course not. CDPR is the best example for a „fool me once…“ situation. Some people will gladly take the shame as it seems.

What’s alarming to me are the spec requirements for 4k/ultra/no RT:
Nvidia - 3080 will do
AMD - 7900 XTX minimum

Hey, their programmer said your system might overheat, not me. I was just offering an opinion on why. I did play CP2077 and it was great time.

Demanding does not equal poorly optimized.

There's probably a reason why this update isn't coming to last gen consoles. They're upping the game. I'd bet on more elaborate and numerous AI being responsible for that CPU hit.

On the contrary, part of the reason for this pronouncement is the fact that they've apparently fixed the problem the game had previously, where it was not properly utilizing all of your available cores/threads. So a lot of people are going to have the same or even better performance, despite the new stuff they're adding.

That's why I finally bought it on GOG breaking my wait until all in one edition. I know I'm not upgrading my 2013 plus bits rig anytime soon, so now I have the current GOG version safely installed, a copy of the installers on external HDD and blurays.

I just use Coretemp and GPUTemp, they're super small, lightweight, and display the temp beside your clock when they're minimized. I think that's all you really need unless you want an overlay while playing, but just for temps I think that's overkill.

Reading between the lines this PSA is for overclockers. Most of us don't tune for stable 100% sustained loads, it's easy to go beyond that and never have a game crash. But the moment you try to run an Aida64 burn-in or something, craaaaash. Also, +1 for Hwinfo, it's everything you need, nothing you don't. It also tends to have more accurate readings than other software, which I can neither understand nor explain, but apparently, it's so.

Also to whoever said: "they're ditching this engine so they know they don't have to optomize it". Have you played CP2077? It looks phenomenal at very playable framerates. Crysis was worse than this for the hardware of its day. Not to mention Starfield looks measurably worse and gets measurably worse performance.

I use Fan Control. Also has a github repo for it!
https://getfancontrol.com/

I use it to control the fans and monitor things - takes a bit of effort to set up but works well with my old ASRock Taichi Z390 motherboard. Simple UI at least.

Libre Hardware Monitor since I am assuming you are on Windows. Temps, speeds, deltas...everything you could want in a monitoring software and it is free without a bunch of crapware bloat bundled in.

Seconding this recommendation, it's excellent.

I have a 13900K with AIO and a 4090 with AIO. Temps really haven't been a problem for me because I'm not trying to play everything at 400 FPS. I generally stick to 85 FPS for the best HDR settings, and only play with higher frames for shooters. I've already put a power limit of 75% on the 4090, and I think I'll look into under-volting my CPU. Res is 3840x1600 so not as demanding as 4K.
