Out of the Blue

To my relief, I fixed a nagging problem with my system, though it's not the crashing I mentioned the other day. Frequently windows would be shrunk and rearranged when my PC woke up from sleeping as if set up for a lower resolution. I have an ultrawide monitor, and it seems like Windows sometimes forgot this when it napped and would scrunch things together when it awoke. Some research shows this is a common problem with two commonly suggested solutions. The safer-sounding one involves removing unused monitor profiles. The sketchier-sounding one entails changing incorrect resolutions via registry editing. Oddly, I had both "issues," despite having a recent clean install of Windows 10 and only one monitor. I tried the safer-sounding tip first and eventually dared to try the scarier one, but neither solved the problem, though nothing broke, either. I should add that I knew the bug I was chasing was inconsequential, but I'm guessing many of you can relate to getting anal about your PC acting strangely. I thought I finally solved things when I noticed the monitor used DisplayPort 3 on my graphics card and switched it to DisplayPort 1. But it came back, albeit less frequently, which I can't interpret (Joe Versus the Volcano: "I have no response to that"). I was refusing to cave in and use a third-party monitor utility when I realized that Microsoft's own PowerToys has a tool called "FancyZones" designed for widescreen and multi-monitor setups. It allows you to designate zones on the screen and snap windows to them. After setting this up, windows sometimes still end up resized and rearranged, but PowerToys fancied the hell out of my issue, and it's trivial to put them back where they belong. I'm pleased with this outcome. If only all of life's problems were so minor and solvable.

Fancy Round-up

Welcome to the world of displayport on windows which has always been a mess and seemingly not a priority for Microsoft.

The nagging problem wth my system is that it badly needs a processor/mb upgrade. Probably either during the Black Friday sales or after Christmas I will dive in.

I have a question for the studio audience: I have a Nvidia 2060 Super currently, the MSI one. (I tend to go with MSI or Asus) Should I get a second one and go dual cards, sell it and get a 40X0, or wait until whatever comes after 40X0 and get that? Thoughts?
I'm pretty sure that the 2060S doesn't support SLI, but it's something you shouldn't really consider anyways. Support for it has been dumped across the board so getting it to work is few and far between.

If you are thinking of getting a new card I think it mostly comes down to how long you're hoping to hold onto it, how much you want to spend, and what resolution you'll be running.
