Grinding Gear Games announces a change in plans for Path of Exile 2. Despite the name, this was previously planned as an expansion for Path of Exile. Now it will be a standalone sequel to the original Path of Exile. Both action/RPGs will continue to operate side-by-side, but purchases will be shared between both free-to-play games. Here's a new gameplay trailer and word from the official website:

Path of Exile 2 is a next generation Action RPG created by Grinding Gear Games. Set years after the original Path of Exile, you will return to the dark world of Wraeclast and seek to end the corruption that is spreading. Path of Exile 2 is a free-to-play online multiplayer game with co-op for up to six players.

Path of Exile 2 is a separate game to the original Path of Exile. We will continue to offer expansions for both games going forward. They are completely free-to-play and will never be "pay to win". Purchases are shared between the two games.

To get the most out of the game you need storage space. At a minimum, you'll need a currency tab and unique tab, and if you engage with some of the other optional content you'll probably need the dedicated tab that holds the items related to that content. I love PoE, but the bank tabs are not cosmetic, or optional so you'll generally want to invest at least $20 to get the most important bank expansions.

Is it worth it? Absolutely! I just don't think it's honest to call the microtransactions 'cosmetic only'.
