Path of Exile 2 Now Standalone

Grinding Gear Games announces a change in plans for Path of Exile 2. Despite the name, this was previously planned as an expansion for Path of Exile. Now it will be a standalone sequel to the original Path of Exile. Both action/RPGs will continue to operate side-by-side, but purchases will be shared between both free-to-play games. Here's a new gameplay trailer and word from the official website:
Path of Exile 2 is a next generation Action RPG created by Grinding Gear Games. Set years after the original Path of Exile, you will return to the dark world of Wraeclast and seek to end the corruption that is spreading. Path of Exile 2 is a free-to-play online multiplayer game with co-op for up to six players.

Path of Exile 2 is a separate game to the original Path of Exile. We will continue to offer expansions for both games going forward. They are completely free-to-play and will never be "pay to win". Purchases are shared between the two games.

can a game become too big, too complex and have too many systems? Because that was the impression I got a couple of years ago and I am sure it is worse now....

I'm always scared away by the massive skill trees in PoE. It makes me feel like I have to spend countless hours planning my character, or I have to look up a build guide which then means the character doesn't feel uniquely "mine." I honestly liked Diablo 3's simplified skill system the best because I could quickly change skills, with no penalty, to see what skills worked best together and were the most fun for me.

The graphics and gameplay of PoE 2 look great, but I doubt I'll ever play it because I don't like character customization that is so complex. I'd rather be playing the game, not analyzing the best paths to take on massive skill trees.
