The Expanse: A Telltale Series Episode 1

Telltale announces the launch of the first episode of The Expanse: A Telltale Series for PC and consoles, kicking off the first game in years from the episodic game developer that was closed for a while before a revival about four years ago. The Windows edition of this television tie-in is available on the Epic Games Store, and word is new installments will come every two weeks, so there won't be an extended wait to complete its five episode arc. Here's the Redband Trailer (NSFW) featuring some odd accents, a mix of extra-long and extra-short necks, and a bunch of f-bombs. Here's more on the game and how it ties into the Expanse television series:
The Expanse: A Telltale Series is set prior to the events of Alcon Television Group’s award-winning television series which streams on Amazon Prime Video and iTunes. Players take on the role of Camina Drummer – played by actress Cara Gee in both the game and TV series, the XO of a scavenger crew on the hunt for a mysterious treasure on the edges of The Belt. As Drummer, players must deal with a mix of powerful personalities, square off against a bloody mutiny, explore locations beyond The Belt and, most of all, make tough decisions that will decide the fate of The Artemis crew.

I wonder if it will be released on Steam. I'd play it on my deck.

It's a one year exclusive to the Epic Store according to the developers.

I only read the first book in the series, and all I remember was it ended up being a zombie book. Never moved to the second book, didn't see any reason it would have become a tv series, and especially not a successful one. I found The Loop (Jeremy Robert Johnson) to be a WAY better zombie book. It is super heavy on the body horror aspect of it, so uh...that's your warning.

Call me when James S. A. Corey releases the mmog, the reason they wrote the books!

Wait epicfailure only, that's really gonna put a dent in sales.

A zombie book? What? You should at the very least read through the 2nd book. Definitely not anything I ever considered when reading the series. (zombies that is)

We'll see about the game. Looks decent but who knows how it actually plays....

Yeah, it is not at all a zombie book. What a weird take, especially when you only read the first book and than say you can't understand why it is popular. 😅

I wonder if the weird accents mentioned here are the Belter ones? Can't watch it right now, but that would make sense.

Well, yeah, Eros did end up filled with zombies, but their zombiness isn't really important to the plot, and as far as I can recall, nothing like that happens during the rest of the series (either books or TV).

As much as I've enjoyed Telltale games, I wish they'd give up on the episodic series. I'd rather a single, longer game with a more cohesive storythan having it broken up into five episodes that constantly need to set the scene before moving on with the narrative. It was a neat idea in 2007 but it is tired and overdone in 2023.

Well Epic loses money, the developers make money, and by the time it comes out on Steam we get the full season. Win/win/win.

IMO The TV series is much better than the books. The first season can be a bit slow moving so you have to get past that. The books are fine as is but there is a problem with a lot of the logic. Like people doing stupid evil shit that can destroy humanity type of stuff. Some of the conclusions become far fetched, but no series is perfect.

You mean like dumping cancer causing waste into rivers? Granted no one has done anything, yet, which destroyed humanity. But I have no doubt there are people who would if they thought it would benefit themselves in the long run.

I mean, Facebook, NewsMax, TikTok, the oil companies, and more, are pretty much all rushing us to extinction because it makes them money today, no?

Maybe a touch melodramatic but your point is well taken. Just a little bit of regulation is all it would take to set this right again. Unregulated capitalism sucks. Of course you'd have to figure out how to get your millionaire congressman to stop taking payouts from corporate lobbies, but oh well.

Not the wrong series, at least for the books (specifically, the first book). It's what the protomolecule did to people. I'm given to understand that the TV show kind of dezombified them, specifically to avoid making people think it was a space zombie series.

If you search for "vomit zombies" on Google, most of the hits are about The Expanse.

Ah, okay. Yeah, in the TV show the proto-molecule simply absorbed them. Didn't know the books had it making zombies. Reduces my desire to read the books...

I suppose it's too much to hope that there's any ship to ship or fleet vs fleet battles.

Nebulous: Fleet Command is pretty close to Expanse style ship or fleet battles but it would be interesting to see something official.
