Out of the Blue

One of my favorite sights in the nearby pond is when the swans are swimming about, as they are the epitome of grace and beauty. But their recent return is making me a little sad. They'd been spending all of their time in the marsh connected to the pond, since that is where they nest. They've finally returned, but sadly it's just the two of them. We never got to see if they had any hatchlings, but they were gone for so long it's obvious they were raising at least one youngster. So I'm presuming that whatever offspring they had must have perished, possibly during that biblical rainstorm that almost caused a flood here. It will be a while before I will be able to feel my normal joy when I see them.

Mournful Round-up

The pre-order showed up on Amazon... $152.99. That's a little steep but I'll probably get it anyway.

I never knew they made a digital remaster. Just did some research and looks like it's free on Roku channel and Tubi (with ads) although (pro tip) You can block the Tubi ads with an ad blocker in a web browser, for now anyway.

I just checked it out, and yeah, CGI looks so much better.

Did you mean ST:DS9 here? DS9 and B5 are closely related. I was so disappointed when the powers that be decided not to remaster DS9 after they did it for TNG. That would have been a day one purchase for me.

STNG and B5 are the only TV series where can recite dialog from almost every episode. Lost track of how many times I have rewatched both series.

We have been lucky to have great Sci-Fi series from those days, honorable mentions to Farscape, Lexx, and Fringe.

Best show ever made. Fite me.

I have the whole series plus movies and Crusade on my computer (also both versions of The Gathering :P). The funny thing is, the version I have is entirely widescreen, and that's how I remember it from TNT or whatever back in the day (but I'm sure that's just my brain retconning me). I had it decades before the HBO version, and I prefer it to the HBO version because that one is cropped. It feels a lot different and you miss a lot in every scene because of it. I swear the HBO version isn't any higher quality than the one I torrented ages ago either. I hope they don't just transfer the lame HBO version to BluRay and call that good enough.

I was considering renting it from Amazon this past fall, but never got around to it. Now I am glad, spend that money on the DVDs instead.

I don't know about you guys, but i haven't touched any VIDEO DISC in decade.... My home don't have any DVD/Blu-ray player and all my computer don't have any disc drive. But I have an external USB-DVD writer for computer services need.

B5 was pretty clever for its time. a lot of great arcs. Too bad the spinoff was not successful, but then B5 was always struggling. I remember they ended season 4 so it could count as the finale if they did not get a season 5.

I have the same kind of thing going on in my backyard, but I live on the coast. I see swans, blue and white herons, ducks (several types), geese, hawks, owls, many types of birds in general, fox (I have a fox that visits me weekly... shits in my yard), coyotes, the occasional deer, the occasional pinniped; all sorts of wildlife. It's kind of the only thing that I have that makes me feel real. Everything else around me makes me feel like I'm an npc doing its boring, daily routine. Wait, I take that back. When I'm playing music in front of an audience, I get a surge of life back in me. I think it's the day-to-day redundant grind that I've been doing for 100 years that's finally gotten to me

I purchased the remastere digital HD version. It is ok. It was filmed in 16x9, so I wish the remastered had the wide-screen live action scenes. They did not do it because the special effects were only rendered in 4x3. But it would have been easy to do a AI up-scaling on special effects and do the progressive/smart stretching where it progressively stretches more and more when it gets further from the middle horizontally. Works reasonably well. Or just given people the option of 16x9 to 4x3 transitions, it would not bother me I think.

I suspect the BluRay version will just be the digital remastered version on BluRay.

Agreed completely, and it is the digital remaster.

Probably due to licensing it's not going to have all the movies or followup series: https://bleedingcool.com/tv/babylon-5-j-michael-straczynski-addresses-blu-ray-release-questions/

My new phone's camera is certainly an improvement! Think the turtle photo was through a not particularly clean window.
