How do you even get a 2/3 majority? Are you counting every person that's ever posted, or just every subscriber? What percentage of subs are bots, or dormant accounts, or people that only pop in once every so often. I subscribe to a ton of subs that I only read when the reach the first page of popular. Should my vote, or lack thereof, count?

I don't have any sympathy for the 3rd party apps that have been hoovering Gigabytes of content off Reddit's servers, and driving up Reddit's operating costs. These wankers expect Reddit to absorb the cost of extra racks of blade servers while they make bank.

None of the Reddits I subscribe to were asked by a mod to vote on the blackouts. This is a case of mods getting drunk with what little pathetic power they have and throwing a collective hissy fit. If Reddit was smart they would can every single one of these moderators. A Reddit going dark should only be possible if a 2/3 majority of its subs vote for it.
The API change has nothing to do with apps abusing the system. Stop making up inane strawman arguments while ignoring the real issues.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride! - HT
