The shop is not in your face, none of it has any effect on gameplay, and there is bonus of any kind to these purely cosmetic items. Now Diablo: Immortal..that store is nuts. Its like every thing you do pops a reminder that you can buy something at the store.

If you can get horse armor and cool-looking armor in the game, then who cares about cosmetics, especially since I'd play alone.

How do you play alone in a game that forces you into a MMO world?

Turn off chat and they might as well be NPCs (which you also see out riding horses and fighting monsters occasionally)... Nevermind the fact you're in private instances most of the time.
If I want to see other players in town, I'll play Path of Exile. It's acceptable when you're not paying $70+.

At some point they're going to want you to, because it's how they fund keeping the game going with updates over time.

It's not like anyone is saying, "fine, make 'em $100, it's not like I'm buying them anyway" as if that would be totally ok. It doesn't affect gameplay, why not have $300 skins. Whales will still buy them and it doesn't affect me, so who cares, right.

I feel like everyone just shrugging their shoulders and saying "it doesn't affect me" over the years is how we wound up with this sort of stuff being so normal in the first place.

I guess my perspective is that sounds like a regulatory problem, not a me problem. I don't like gambling as I feel it's vampiric and very destructive to society but people do it and it's legal so /shrug, there's only so much I can do. The implementation of cosmetics in this game is very non-confrontational with the player base so I don't see anything to get worked up about yet. If people want to buy them they are going to do that, I can't stop them. If they're $1 people will buy many and if they're $100 they're probably still going to buy some. What do you suggest we should do about this to resolve the situation?

Fortnite is far worse an offender and it's one of the most popular games on the market. I can't do anything about that, there's nothing left to do but shrug. A fool and his money and all that.

If they're only cosmetics, who cares? I've never bought a cosmetic in GTA online, but I have bought a couple in Deep Rock Galactic (hey, my engineer HAD to have a Hawaiian shirt -.it's a must) and a couple for Killing Floor 2 (had to finish off my Bat-Cat themed outfit with a backpack).

As long as it's not pay to play, or some stupid crypto scam, I'm fine with that, especially if you can also get them via drops. It's pretty much standard in all AAA games now, and there are people that would complain if they couldn't buy cosmetics, so you can't please everyone.

Hello, what planet are the authors on. Pricey cosmetics have been pretty much par for the course with almost all AAA releases for years.

Is there anything new here, no.

Is this news, no.

Is this poser SJW sophomoric drivel, yes.

You can get cosmetics as in-game drops which was surprising and otherwise you never really interface with them if you don't want to. I navigated to the shop tab once, shrugged and never clicked on it again. It's a non-factor.

I'll be the first to say that microtransactions suck. But in a world where Diablo Immortal exists... People spend utterly obscene amounts of money on Pay to Win microtransactions constantly in that garbage gacha scam. So why does this article exist?

How often during gameplay are you interrupted to by unnecessary cosmetic items?

You're not, at all. Loading screens, for example, are just art backgrounds with tutorial tips. No ads for anything MTX related. No other pop-ups or ads I've come across anywhere. For now, anyway...
In-game, I don't think anyone is even paying attention to anyone else's cosmetics in any town or while waiting for a world boss to spawn etc. I don't think anyone that's bought the game cares at all about any of this.
Some online warriors are going off on this in Diablo IV social medias, way too far into the "will somebody please think of the children" territory. In a couple threads I read, quite literally going off that Diablo IV cosmetic MTX store, specifically, will lead children down the path of lootboxes and online gambling sites. ffs

Edit: I really want those art backgrounds in loading screens as screenshots and to use for desktop backgrounds, they're beautiful.

"True Horror"

Proceed to read article and discover they have a problem with cosmetic DLCs that are no differently priced from the shit you can buy in WoW for years now. If thats True Horror then what is Diablo Immortal?
Do you have a single fact to back that up?

Complaints about the cost of optional cosmetic items that don't affect gameplay.

Honestly, I love 95% of the article link clarifications that Blue posts.
