I don't see a single piece of innovation that you could possibly point at compared to other companies that actually you know, invented shit (Valve, Oculus, etc.) This is all tech that's been done and being done on other headsets. But of course because it's Apple so now it's better!.............somehow.Razumen wrote on Jun 7, 2023, 00:22:Watching the video, I think the tech is impressive. They're doing a lot of new stuff natively that's built into the headset to make it an actual consumer device instead of just a different kind of computer display. And it's a relatively low run production, so it's going to be expensive to recoup all of that R & D. They are pushing the envelope here and it's obvious they've spent several Carl Sagans to do so (billions and billions). I think this has a much greater chance of success than say, Meta. And I say that as an Apple-hater.
This is one of those things where I'm glad they're releasing a VR device, but at the same time I feel like it's going to harm it as well. Yes, the tech is impressive, but it's nothing really new, and the price is absolutely off the walls insane. This isn't a device created to push adoption of VR, but simply to line the wallets of these said execs.
And if you thought the Oculus/FB was bad, just wait until you see the walled garden that will exist around this device. Exclusive apps to a single headset, no ability to be used as a HMD on other devices, etc. I bet if it breaks you'll have no option to buy a whole new one (Look into Apple's recent efforts against the right to repair movement, they're absolutely scummy in this area.)

I think unlike the iPhone, it's hard to see a lot of scenarios that justify the cost. I think it's very impressive in terms of design and specs but I can't get super excited about doing all of the same things with a headset on that costs so much money. They failed to really demonstrate a compelling use case.
