post on Steam announces that the macOS edition of No Man's Sky is now
available, almost seven years after the
launch of Hello Games' space offering. It includes a
Mac Launch Trailer and word that the macOS edition, now available at no
additional cost, supports cross-saves with the Windows version. Here's the
deal:
No Man’s Sky launches on Macs everywhere today! We’ve poured a lot of love and effort into making this a flagship title with all content updates from the past seven years included.
No Man’s Sky has been built from the ground up with a new rendering pipeline to take full advantage of Metal and Apple silicon. In addition to the Apple silicon Mac lineup, it also runs on select Intel-based Macs.
No Man’s Sky for Mac is free to millions of players who already own the game on Steam. And for users who use both PC and Mac, cross save is supported between both systems, allowing players to jump from a PC to a Mac laptop, or from a Mac mini to Mac Studio.

It's probably not economical for most companies to do something like this, but it'll be very interesting to see if we end up seeing more due to the standardization of the M1 chips. Curious what the performance ends up looking like as most prior games haven't seemed to be able to use the GPU terribly efficiently.

I'm just here for NMS hate... Games really good now after a really terrible launch but it's fantastic now.

Terrible for gaming, yes of course. For well built laptops with great battery life, yes quite good.
