Yeah most extraction games suck, but that just means that developers can't get it right. Or when they do, they include mechanics to make the game offputting to people. (Like they did with the huge grind in Tarkov)

However I still believe that a good, or even great extraction game can be made. Bungie has a pretty decent track record with shooters, and they make games that are fairly popular, I say let's wait and see.

"Extraction game" is just a term made to distinguish it as a slightly different battle royale, it's still the same overal concept.

Battle Royale: One person or team left standing.

Extraction: Get in, do objective, get out.

Not really sure how these two are remotely similar.

No thanks. PvE? Maybe. PvP is not fun and ruins every game ever. This is the last time I will think about this game.

No, we're talking about "Oni" - as in the demonic creature of Japanese folklore. It was released in 2001 for PS2, Mac and PC, and was a 3rd person brawler/shooter heavily inspired by Ghost in the Shell. Had some cool ideas and solid combat, but apparently they went through development hell to ship it and the final product was a fraction of what they had hoped for.

Also, why is no-one talking about Myth? I put more hours into Myth 1 & 2 than any other Bungie game.

I can't think of a single person who would confuse Battle Royale clones with Extraction shooters.....oh wait....

I have yet to play a great extraction shooter apart from Tarkov, one that would be fun instead of being insanely grindy. I actually like Tarkov's gunplay and basic mechanics but find it impossibly grindy, to the point where I just don't play it anymore. However the whole extraction shooter mechanic is actually pretty cool, it's just that no one has come close to nailing it apart from Escape from Tarkov, which has taken the grind to extreme levels of grindiness.

Bungie might actually make a half-decent game as long as they don't monetize it to the moon and back. Also if anyone remembers Marathon's Sci-Fi lore at all, it's actually some pretty twisted and weird shit and would work quite well as far as worldbuilding goes.

^ This. The core appeal of the Marathon Trilogy was the setting, the story, and the gameplay of mowing down hordes of aliens with dual-wielded double-barrelled shotguns. No-one asked for a PvP extraction shooter. I'd be more than happy with a remake of the original trilogy.

And yes, make Oni 2 (or remake Oni) you cowards!
