Never played the first Alan Wake (or Alan Wake Remastered)? No need to worry, as players who may have missed out on the first game can easily dive into the sequel without any prior experience or knowledge of the game’s story. It was important for us to create an approachable experience for new players without forgetting our long-standing fans. Another key pillar for us was ensuring that we respect fundamental survival horror principles: make the gameplay challenging for experienced players yet easy to navigate for those who want to focus on enjoying the game’s rich, layered story.

Maybe I should try the original again. I didn't get too far with it and found the shoot mechanics with the flashlight awkward. Graphically it looked good, but as does most Remedy games. I think they prioritize tech. over game sometimes. Granted I enjoyed the heck out of Max Payne 1 and 2, not so much 3. I found Control to be so damn weird. Tried giving it a second, and maybe even 3rd chance, but I can't get into it no matter how much I try.
I hated Alan Wake, but I played through it.
As background, I generally dislike games where I'm weak and ammo is scarce. I also loved MP3, and while it's the most recent MP I've played, I think it's my favorite.
But I actually see things in common between the two. MP3 was the game I had to quickload the most in my life. There were many, many, many times that I kept dying in firefights. Partially, probably, that I played on console and couldn't quicksave. Partially because it was really hard. Alan Wake also made me redo a few sections so much that I wanted to puke, but in those, I often felt that my success or failure wasn't due to skill, but stupid mechanics.
I really hated this game. I don't know why I finished it.

It’s part of the Ultimate edition, yeah. The main focus of it is a creature that can only be damaged in the light follows you around. Also there are literally cutscenes where Alan Wake somewhat communicates with Jesse. You didn’t play through it and NOT know what it was about. The mission shows up after you beat the main game, as does the Foundation expansion that I found utterly boring.

Nope, can't say that I have played the AWE expansion. I have the Ultimate Edition on Steam but it doesn't list that as a separate DLC. Maybe I did play through it and not known it?

I had hoped to see a tie-in with Control but that is probably buried in the game somewhere.

I've waited 13 years and through teases and tangentially related games for a continuation of AW. I'm in.
