Was thinking of the old tradition of "cinematics" where it was a completely different render. Still does seem kind of dated thinking about including video files with the game though... well other than the logos at startupSepharo wrote on May 22, 2023, 15:46:There's a lot of Bink usage for Jedi Survivor if you want to see a recent game that still uses standalone video formats.Ant wrote on May 22, 2023, 09:35:Sepharo wrote on May 22, 2023, 09:22:Videos are way bigger than audios though. voice files and motion capture do not take up space. it is textures and videos.
Nope, a lot of it is the voice files.
I just remember the Titanfall example where like 60% of the 50GB or something was audio.
Do games even have videos anymore? The cutscenes have been in engine for like over a decade.

A single fighting game now takes up almost as much HD space as Elden Ring and Witcher 3 combined?
Welcome to the future, old man.
Yah got me there. I still remember when the very first Mortal Kombat hit arcades
Same. Still no reason why something as basic as MK should take up 100+GB of space, even with fancy 4K resolution textures.

Although, the game kept crashing because of SB16 bug until Acclaim fixed it. This was back in end of 1993/beginning of 1994.Razumen wrote on May 21, 2023, 20:10:Braden wrote on May 21, 2023, 12:59:

MK 11 is 116.5 Gigs on my hard drive, so its right in line with their last game.
Yep, but MK10 was only 36GB and MK9 before it was 10GB. So that's a hell of a large HD requirement increase over time for a game that is fundamentally the same with each release, bar shinier graphics and some extra modes. Did something new happen in MX11 to justify tripling the install size?
