Star Citizen Free Fly Event

Cloud Imperium Games announces another chance to check out Star Citizen for free. Today kicks off Invictus Launch Week 2953 in the crowdfunded space game. The name implies a one-off, but this is an annual thing, celebrating an event in the game's lore 930 years from now (by which time it will presumably be in beta). The festivities get underway today at noon Eastern Time, and the week will last 11 days. Current players can get a bonus for inviting others with a referral code, or new players can get started through this page. Here's a FAQ along with details on what to expect:
Star Citizen’s annual Invictus Launch Week 2953, that gives players a unique chance to play for free, returns to honor the brave men and women of the Navy and armed forces who dedicate themselves to the UEE and the protection of humanity. The event also celebrates the aerospace and defense manufacturers who gather to show off their newest and most popular vehicles used or inspired by the military. The expo returns to Area18 on ArcCorp, where new players can enjoy the enhanced new-player experience to start their adventures in the ‘verse, and then head straight to the show floor as manufacturers take turns showing off their latest and greatest vehicles. This year’s expo debuts Mirai, the next-generation performance vehicle brand dedicated to pushing the limits of whatever sector it enters into. The first vehicles of Mirai, the formidable Fury and its Fury MX variant, are available for purchase or free rental during the event, and showcase the manufacturer's cutting-edge technologies and powerful weaponry. The might of the UEE will be on full display during the festivities, with the return of the RSI Bengal fleet carrier flying throughout the Stanton system. The Aegis Javelin also returns, stopping on Hurston, microTech, Crusader, and ArcCorp to give pilots a chance to take a walking tour through the massive destroyer and learn about its capabilities directly from the crew.

I remember when Star Citizen was announced and rekindled the interest in single-player space shooter games. I'm definitely excited to play that kind of game.

That Everspace 2 is pretty dang good.

Elite Dangerous somehow managed to get announced *and released* around the time that Star Citizen was announced, and did most of what Star Citizen promised at the time.
Additionally, there's Starfield, which might fulfill the desire for a single-player space epic experience.

Oh, maybe I'll try it then. I only care about that being as good as possible.

There is a tutorial now, I have not used it so I can't comment on it, and little icons/display on the right lower side that show hints/button uses. Invictus event is going to be busy so the servers may be on fire for at least the first couple of days, might want to wait for that before giving it a try.

The 2 previous days before Invictus I played 3.19 and I can say it's the best performing patch in a long long time. Interface and interactions were much snappier, all the ship terminals and shop terminals were working, missions I tried all worked without bugging out, enemy AI was responding better and no longer one shot you when shooting at you on the ground missions. There will inevitably be bugs you'll run into here and there but so far this patch is looking good. Once in game bring down the console with ~ and type r_displayinfo 3, you'll see some very helpful info on how that specific server is running, your fps, ping, memory usage, server fps "if it's too low you might experience backend services and enemy AI being slow to respond".

I get a kick out of everyone bashing the game and I can't help but agree in some instances, but there really is nothing else like it. A lot of time has gone into making SC and it's nowhere near finished but the light is starting to shine through the cracks, there is much fun to be had even in it's current state.

Don't you mean a P2W F2P cult?

It's no-clip models in a lifeless, uninspired world/universe (made up of poor homages to pop culture sci-fi) that is full of bugs - the computer kind not the alien kind (aliens are not even realised yet)

Yet some how people spend hundreds of dollars on single digital items, some of which are still nothing more than "concepts" many years after they where first sold.

They sold land claims years ago - when did the last even talk about adding in land claims.

It's 95% cult/scam, 5% minimal viable product.

Let's not even start of Squadron 404.

Hey we can make a new fun little game out of this. Everyone guess how many more free-fly events Star Citizen will have before its 1.0 release. It's the latest version of guess how many jelly beans in the jar.

This easily has the best bar tender AI in any game ever made by Chris Roberts since returning to pretending to be a video game designer after getting kicked out of Hollywood.

The Good: It's Invictus Week for the Free Fly so you can rent for free quite a few ships at the Invictus event at Area 18.

The Bad: Most people have been fucked and can't get in the game or once in the game can't access anything.

I remember when these were like once ayear, seems to be nearly monthly.

I tried the last one:

Logged in, no tutorial, not even a pop up showing controls
Noticed every NPC was T-posing. Chat seemed to be saying it was lag
Spent 10 mins finding my way from my room to the spaceport via train
Spent another five mins working out there were terminals to summon ships and lifts to get to hangers (remember no tutorials/pop ups at all)
Finally get to ship.
Work out how to start ship.
Ship using the preconfigured config for my HOTAS does an impression of an epileptic at a j-pop gig and kills me.
I start in a different room, start to make my way to train.
Realise what I'm doing and uninstall it.

At least Sauron actually made his ring...
It's a little known fact that Sauron sold hundreds of jpgs of rings that he never got around to making.
So he sold NFTs.
