How much does Carmack get paid for this event?
I want to know how much he considers himself worth to be sold to an in-your-face posturing demographic that makes him feel a little uncomfortable.
I think Carmack's perspective is vastly different than everyone else's. He thinks this convention is sci-fi first and not political at all. But everyone else sees this as a political convention first, and sci-fi second. i.e. You are not going to see many sci-fi people who aren't aligned with the convention's politics. He doesn't see it because he is of those people; people who are also the same ones that make him uncomfortable. He doesn't think twice that his "libertarian" demographic didn't include "black lives matter" in that list of "absolute truths", because apparently: this is who John Carmack has been all along.
