Is that guy with the cat avatar still around? Wonder what his thoughts are on the current state of the Alpha(not calling it a game).

Breaching and boarding an enemy ship and taking the pilot out while he's still sitting in his chair. Even though there was some obvious glitching, that was pretty cool.
Game has so much promise but is understandably dumped on because of the production length, feature creep, ship sales, roadmaps-to-roadmaps etc.

Meh. I think with the various issues with the initial release of 3.18 (even with the forewarning by the devs), and the 3.18.1 patch, things might not pick up as much as CIG would like/want.

It's a niche game. It's got a lot of scope creep and overly ambitious goals. It's full of bugs and glitches (entertaining as some of them may be, if not outright game-breaking). The new PES (persistent entity streaming) and cargo block system they introduced in 3.18 along with whatever subsystems they've rejiggered broke at scale in the PU (persistent universe) compared to the PTU (persistent test universe) - and I will admit that, players were warned, and that, maybe, there are bugs that can not be encountered or uncovered until the game is released to a wider group of players.

The ships are neat. I love being able to walk through a large ship and seeing all its details. I like how seamless transitions are from space to planet, etc. I like salvaging, doing some ship bounty combat missions, strolling around a city or station, or just cruising around. Mutli-crew missions can be a lot of fun.

Is it worth it? As long as I have an org to play along with, it rarely ever gets boring. But, I don't think I'll be putting any extra money into this - not that I can afford to.

(There are folks I've spoken with who play that have sunk at least a thousand into it; that is much more than I would care to put in).

I started playing Spacebourne 2 last weekend. It costs $19.99. It's not perfect (it is, in fact, janky in many ways), but I think it is really fun anyway. It gives me what I wanted from Star Citizen so many years ago when I backed the original campaign. I don't even feel like I want to play Star Citizen at this point in time, especially given that Everspace 2 is in my play queue once I'm done with Spacebourne 2.
Why would I play Spacebourne 2? It doesn't even have the features real space gamers want: a Fabric Motion Engine™️ and ice cube physics!

So 3.18 (named Lasting Legacies) came out with the persistent universe and it was a clusterfuck of epic proportions. The 3.18.1 patch released yesterday is all the work that shoulda gone into 3.18 to make it stable instead of doing the a-fucking-typical "it's good enough, push it to live" crap CIG does. There was so much trash (litteral and ship debris) that it choked the holy fuck out of the servers.

If ya go through all the reading they provide, and see some of the tech demo's they show, you soon realize that the CIG has no clue wtf it's doing or how to get there.

So here is my referral code. STAR-QVDN-J4LM
If anyone wants to play until the 20th and come join my org (we are 1 part jackass 1 part stormtroopers and 1 part a-team) I am CptRanger#4907 on discord, and add me as a friend as CptRanger in game.

This game has some brilliant moments and here is a Short Clip taken from my org leaders perspective. The setup is this: We had some people join our org from an org with an abusive asshole who's name was Itorca. So we all piled into a sever and one of the ex-members of his org said that he was online. So being the "lovely" asshole I am, I called him out in chat asking if he wanted to "play". We were getting all our org members together at the semi-pirate/seedy station called Grim Hex. I'm in my ship with a gunner waiting for the guild leader who is doing the recording. So all of a sudden my ship is being rammed by another ship (turns out to be Itorca). My ship and gunner engage him, while my org leader is in a small ship, gets down his rear shields, breaks open the rear landing ramp of Itorca's ship, boards it, goes up to the cockpit and kills him. Enjoy.
This game has so much great potential, but after the mess of the 3.18 patch I feel like Tina Turner after 3 rounds with Ike Turner.

Everspace 2 is awesome. It has a solid story with side quests; about 90 hours worth of content.

That looks very cool. I wish it had a co-op feature, but I may check it out.

The really sad thing is, this game is being made by just one guy!!!

Puts Start Citizen to shame in the worst way possible. It just shows what a shit-show Star Citizen really is and all Roberts is doing is milking the community for money to get rich!

<cough> My referral code STAR-FYPW-T2XM </cough>

I briefly fired up the new version but immediately ran into issues (climbing out of bed, just to be immediately teleported back to climbing out of bed; doors not opening). Surprisingly, I'm getting better framerates (and running at Ultra settings at 1080p, to boot!). Overall progress is glacially slow and far below expectations, but I am glad to see it improving little by little -- while recognizing that it's still a terribly behind schedule'd mess.

Yeah, aside from that whole "most experienced developers could have made not just one but SEVERAL games already with this amount of time and money" thing.

Was Chris Roberts in the US military doing budgets? Only other group I've seen that can be given virtually unlimited money and still fail to have enough for ANYTHING.
