Out of the Blue

I was struck with a thought yesterday about April Fools' Day, and the general perception that this has been ruined by the internet. Now I'm not going to argue that many of the jokes that get posted are funny or anything. But I did come up with the perspective that it could be considered beneficial that the internet has become a lightning rod for the occasion. So many of the jokes and gags are concentrated online that it doesn't seem like people focus nearly as much on IRL stunts as they used to. Being bespoke, those jokes were probably generally funnier to start with, but it still seems appropriate to recognize the helpful role the online world has played in sparing so many unsuspecting victims buckets of water over the head and other such hilarity.

Ryuichi Sakamoto is an underrated composer. Listen to how he takes this song from pathos to triumph without losing the melody. Brilliant. RIP.

Whether it was Hip-Hop music, movie/video game soundtracks, or just pop music in general, the world won't be the same without him or YMO. A great loss. RIP.
