confirms the rumors that E3 2023 is
cancelled. Word is: "ReedPop and the Entertainment Software Association (ESA)
have announced that both the digital and physical events for E3 2023 are
cancelled." This announcement was expected after
more and
more companies announced they were
pulling out of the show. The E3 Website
now reflects the news with this statement:
Show organizer ReedPop announces E3 2023 will not take place as scheduled this June, with both physical and digital events canceled. Alongside the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), both parties will re-evaluate the future of E3.
the games is not what made e3 fun, it was the loud environment and all the silliness going on. And the grab bags and stuff. Yes, the girls were also really nice when they had them.

Not quite sure why anyone is happy it is dead. Was it irrelevant? Sure. So, why care? If people want to waste their time, let them. I'm certain most of what I do these days would be considered a waste of time by a large majority of the population. So? *shrug*

Could never attend one being over here on the East coast and all, but how does it compare to say PAX East if someone has done both? I enjoyed PAX the last few years I went. Granted this was the first year I did not go. I found there was a lot of Indie developers at PAX and it was nice to get their take on the project and seeing how excited they were to get what they've been working on into the hands of gamers.

That E3 died some time ago, but yeah....agree.
It feels like this has been one of those slow painful deaths over like a decade.

As someone who's been attending since 1999, this should have stopped being a thing around 2007.It literally did before coming back in 2009.
I remember going to E For All and after a few hours just standing there thinking, "Shit, I'm too old for this."
I'm in for the big news releases, the big reveal trailers, and gameplay footage.
Everything else about it can be totally ignored I feel. So there really is no reason to have this event anymore, like it was in the past.

damn, this sucks. e3 was always fun to go to. I remember going and finding out about cs source that year. I still have my shirt from the valve booth.
I always thought the main purpose of game trade shows was to sell buyers from retail chains on ordering new games for thier shelves, so I am surprised this one has stuck around for so long after most games are bought online now.

The big problem with this is that I don't think we will ever see big "public facing" industry events like this one ever again. I could blame covid but in reality, E3 and the other events are a fossil - the lockdown phase only really homed it in that we don't actually NEED to those events, and publishers are not keen on paying for things they don't need.
Hopefully GamesCom (the far better event, imo) will remain but the news there aren't better either.

Why did the gaming company avoid inviting the mainstream media to their E3 booth? Because they didn't want them to take a break from their usual sensationalist news stories, and start covering something that's actually fun and engaging!

Although not surprising in the least, I can't help but feel sad. E3 has been such a huge part of the gaming culture for so long and I'll miss it all - the (sometimes ridiculous) presentations, the fake CGI demos, the controversies over booth babes. Riiiiiiiidge Racer!
Well, I'm sad that its going away. I personally enjoyed it many years ago. but not the newer commercialized part. Sucks though!
