This is beyond the interview stage. This is now me justifying why I picked the candidate I did where interview strength and demonstrated skillset are not relevant to the people pushing back against my selection.
And this is constant. For. Every. Single. Hire. My boss, a VP, has tried to explain to them that for what we do, the candidate pool of qualified individuals is fairly small. They just don't get it or are willfully choosing to not get it to hit some magic ratio.
It's one of the major reasons I am opting for "early" (in the view of America's rampantly diseased post-capitalism culture) retirement. I no longer want to deal with the political bullshit that constantly interferes with running a highly skilled, efficient, and effective department. I'd rather worry about when I need to cover my vegetables or corral my cattle after checking the weather than whatever the political hot potato du jour is.
