PC The Last of Us Part I Released

The Naughty Dog Blog celebrates the release of The Last of Us Part I on PC, as the Windows edition of the acclaimed PlayStation action/adventure game is now available on the Epic Games Store and Steam. Word is: "We were determined to do this right by preserving an experience so many love while delivering it to a new platform. From a technical perspective, Naughty Dog’s engine used for Part I was optimized for PS5. Moving it to PC meant a large amount of tuning, tweaking, and even re-thinking, especially when it came to how we utilized the GPU. We made careful decisions on how to adapt the overall experience for the PC." Check out the Launch Trailer for a look, and read on for the description of the game:
Experience the emotional storytelling and unforgettable characters in The Last of Us™, winner of over 200 Game of the Year awards.

In a ravaged civilization, where infected and hardened survivors run rampant, Joel, a weary protagonist, is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie out of a military quarantine zone. However, what starts as a small job soon transforms into a brutal cross-country journey.

Includes the complete The Last of Us single-player story and celebrated prequel chapter, Left Behind, which explores the events that changed the lives of Ellie and her best friend Riley forever.

Seen no reviews yet, so absolutely no idea how well this port is optimized for PC.

The fact that Sony was trying to hide that it was being ported by Iron Galaxy (who did the janky Batman: Arkham Knight and Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection PC ports) and not Nixxes like it was initially led to be believed, is worrisome.

On top of no early, or even launch day reviews, yea ... not a good sign AT ALL.

UPDATE: early Steam reviews are saying the game is unstable.

Nice of them to release this shit on PC after all these centuries. I might even buy it now once it's down to $4.99.

Maybe they can release a PC version of Super Mario Bros next.
Do you have a single fact to back that up?

I am a closed minded son of a bitch. The ps5 code would be a drag and drop into my pc, but I am always ignoring the lesser systems and I guess I shouldn't. If I want the steam deck to succeed and see more devices like it I need new games to offer low end optimizations. I really wish they would ditch windows, too.

The only possible way you could have screwed this up and you actually did it. That's almost impressive. At least they can actually fix this one as the problem is technical. There is no fixing how bad the sequel was; I haven't hated a sequel to a great first entry as much since Highlander 2.

The day may come when I can avoid bringing up the detestable sequel when talking about TLOU 1, but today isn't that day obviously.

The sequel is objectively the greatest achievement in narrative gameplay of all time. Anyone who grew up playing video games and has been waiting for the interactive arts to converge with cinema, so that you're literally playing a part in what's happening on-screen, the whole time on the edge of your seat watching the drama unfold and waiting with bated breath to see what's going to happen next... There it is.

If that's legitimately how you feel, then great. I am glad you enjoyed as much as you did. It doesn't make me mad or compel me to go on an unhinged rant about all the reasons you're insane for thinking that. But it also does nothing to change the fact that it's the closest a piece of media has ever come to causing me physical pain in how terrible it was.

A Sony exclusive game that was used to sell multiple generations of consoles finally, after many years, being released to PC so non-Playstationers can "experience" it, only to find out that it's horrifyingly poorly optimized?!

In other breaking news, water is wet.

The studio that handled this port is well known for being the *WORST* porting studio in the industry - but from what I seen the game probably has some issues somewhere else if it compiles shaders for upwards of an hour. That is 100% going to exceed the 4gb limit for shader cache in the driver too Would be wild if that were the case of the issues heh

I understand a lot of people have different opinions on the content of the game, where they decided to take the story, etc. Though the polarization is an achievement in itself... I'm talking more about the technical aspects, the quality of craft Naughty Dog has proven they're capable of. It's incredible.
