PC The Last of Us Part I Released

The Naughty Dog Blog celebrates the release of The Last of Us Part I on PC, as the Windows edition of the acclaimed PlayStation action/adventure game is now available on the Epic Games Store and Steam. Word is: "We were determined to do this right by preserving an experience so many love while delivering it to a new platform. From a technical perspective, Naughty Dog’s engine used for Part I was optimized for PS5. Moving it to PC meant a large amount of tuning, tweaking, and even re-thinking, especially when it came to how we utilized the GPU. We made careful decisions on how to adapt the overall experience for the PC." Check out the Launch Trailer for a look, and read on for the description of the game:
Experience the emotional storytelling and unforgettable characters in The Last of Us™, winner of over 200 Game of the Year awards.

In a ravaged civilization, where infected and hardened survivors run rampant, Joel, a weary protagonist, is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie out of a military quarantine zone. However, what starts as a small job soon transforms into a brutal cross-country journey.

Includes the complete The Last of Us single-player story and celebrated prequel chapter, Left Behind, which explores the events that changed the lives of Ellie and her best friend Riley forever.

In other news, EGS still shows PlayStation reviews from 2022. There are finally user reviews. 3.3/5 stars with no mentioned pros. Probably a lot of EGS refunders.

They had to release it to make the holiday sales window.

Can Sony be as clueless as to ignore the sure damage to its reputation and future sales of any title, that this would entail among PC users ?

Perhaps Sony isn't worried about us, and willfully permitted this failed port as propaganda that you better buy a PS5 (even a PS4) or have a super PC as anything less can't cope and is subpar to its console.

A title of this caliber and no early previews to any PC gaming sites ? Sony knew and decided this.

To guarantee optimal performance on average PC systems, developers can undertake various steps such as code optimization through efficient algorithms, reducing shader complexity, utilizing texture compression techniques, employing efficient file compression algorithms, memory allocation optimization, minimizing CPU utilization through multithreading and concurrency practices, identifying and resolving potential software conflicts, and performing rigorous testing across multiple PC configurations. All of which Sony couldn't give two farts about, apparently.

So min spec for TLoU on PC is (12900/4090). I guess it will be a few years before I can play this then.

Hard disagree not only with your opinion, but the mispelling of the word 'subjectively'.

First game was brilliant story telling with amazing acting. The DLC carried on that tradition. The second game seemed to throw the positivity of the story out the window and then double down on all of the problematic gameplay issues that were inherent in the first. The acting and story felt forced and a bit shoehorned. They embraced a viral marketing campaign and any reasonable criticism was dismissed and swept under the rug with the excuse that the real motivation was conservative silliness.

The show was a great bit of work and I loved how they brought out the stories of some of the secondary characters in the game. Did not care for their reimagination of Tess and Joel's relationship.

Just checked Steam's page. 6,400 user reviews, mostly negative, and the reviews are scathing.

There are no critic reviews listed on Metacritic, so I'm guessing Naughty Dog knew the game was fucked, and refused to release review keys ahead of time? Even more egregious.

Hope they fix it eventually as I would like to play the game some day.
Everyone was rightfully worried after it was known who was doing the port. Add in the fact that no review copies were releasedy and the rest is history.

I was pretty excited when they finally made a TV show because I could just not get into the gameplay at all.
3rd person action adventure just ain't my thing.
I tried to stick it out for the story, but very early on when I'm cranking some generator handle and zombies are scripted to attack me while I do it no matter what sort of preparations I make beforehand... No thanks!

How did you like it? Haven't watched it yet myself.

I really liked it. I thought the characters were great and well acted.
I'm glad it wasn't a zombie smash-up all the time... but that's also the main complaint I heard in my circles, "where are all the zombies?"
There was definitely some great action scenes... but I'll take character and general immersion all day over that.
It was definitely a high production value, uh, production, and well scripted/directed imo.

Good appraisal, thanks. It's valuable to have someone with hands-on experience who can avoid an overall over-emotional reaction early on. I remember the email I sent to Valve when I first went to try Half-life 2. Upon release it was utterly unplayable. Let's just say I was shocked and embarrassed when I calmed down and reread it. 😲

I picked it up early, have been busy with other stuff, but thought I would give it a shot tonight for first (brief) impressions. Story telling is pretty awesome, no surprises there. The issue seems to be with micro stutters, slow loads, and endless "please wait" spinning circles popping up on the screen. Personally I am fine to wait for a patch since I am playing some other really good games, but I can see how some others would be pretty annoyed. UE 5.1 is supposed to address shader caching but obviously this is not one of those games, although it does look really good.

Yeah I have heard some less than glowing reviews, but mostly it has reviewed well amongst reviewers I trust and it looks like something I would really dig. I don't care if they stray from the narrative of the game's but respecting the characters is paramount. That's where I think Amazon's LOTR failed spectacularly.
