PC The Last of Us Part I Released

The Naughty Dog Blog celebrates the release of The Last of Us Part I on PC, as the Windows edition of the acclaimed PlayStation action/adventure game is now available on the Epic Games Store and Steam. Word is: "We were determined to do this right by preserving an experience so many love while delivering it to a new platform. From a technical perspective, Naughty Dog’s engine used for Part I was optimized for PS5. Moving it to PC meant a large amount of tuning, tweaking, and even re-thinking, especially when it came to how we utilized the GPU. We made careful decisions on how to adapt the overall experience for the PC." Check out the Launch Trailer for a look, and read on for the description of the game:
Experience the emotional storytelling and unforgettable characters in The Last of Us™, winner of over 200 Game of the Year awards.

In a ravaged civilization, where infected and hardened survivors run rampant, Joel, a weary protagonist, is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie out of a military quarantine zone. However, what starts as a small job soon transforms into a brutal cross-country journey.

Includes the complete The Last of Us single-player story and celebrated prequel chapter, Left Behind, which explores the events that changed the lives of Ellie and her best friend Riley forever.

I was pretty excited when they finally made a TV show because I could just not get into the gameplay at all.
3rd person action adventure just ain't my thing.
I tried to stick it out for the story, but very early on when I'm cranking some generator handle and zombies are scripted to attack me while I do it no matter what sort of preparations I make beforehand... No thanks!

How did you like it? Haven't watched it yet myself.

I haven't played it, but from what I understand players got frustrated when the freedom of choice was taken away from them. Making interesting choices is the root of gaming, and what sets it apart from other media like film and books.

If you played TLOU with that expectation, then yeah, I'd expect you to be disappointed. The narrative has a degree of interactivity I guess, but ultimately the story told is by and large the same for everyone. I still think that this game took full advantage of the interactivity of the game medium in a masterful way. Obviously I do not recommend the second, but I definitely recommend playing the first, as it is so much more than a movie you can control in my opinion.

The sequel is objectively the greatest achievement in narrative gameplay of all time. Anyone who grew up playing video games and has been waiting for the interactive arts to converge with cinema, so that you're literally playing a part in what's happening on-screen, the whole time on the edge of your seat watching the drama unfold and waiting with bated breath to see what's going to happen next... There it is.

To be fair both Part 1 and Part 2 are narrative games... neither has you making any choices that affect the story. X is always going to happen at Y point, you just play the gameplay between. (and I personally do think the narrative and the concepts touched on in Part 2 were really well done.)

I'm having horrible stuttering. I have a 2080 ti, and a AMD 3700, and I started with the set High settings (with some things like blur turned off), but it's odd, as my framerate stays about 50-60+ at 1440p, but it stutters despite keeping the FPS. I've tested adjusting everything down to medium, and even 1080p, and it doesn't affect the stuttering at all (in fact, the stuttering seemed worse at 1080p. Guess I'm going to just have to wait for a patch to see if it gets resolved.

If that's legitimately how you feel, then great. I am glad you enjoyed as much as you did. It doesn't make me mad or compel me to go on an unhinged rant about all the reasons you're insane for thinking that. But it also does nothing to change the fact that it's the closest a piece of media has ever come to causing me physical pain in how terrible it was.

I understand a lot of people have different opinions on the content of the game, where they decided to take the story, etc. Though the polarization is an achievement in itself... I'm talking more about the technical aspects, the quality of craft Naughty Dog has proven they're capable of. It's incredible.

I agree with your polarization comment in some respect - I could not possibly loathe the second as intensely and deeply as I do without equally intensely loving the universe and the characters that they built in the first. So hats off to them for that, no doubt. Also, on a technical level, the second one is indeed a huge achievement. I just care almost nothing about the technical aspects.

In fairness, Naughty Dog is new to making video games so it's expected that they would make rookie mistakes like this.

Honestly, Sony gets what they deserve. Hope they learn their lesson. Went cheap on the port company and here is the results.

I'm not sure who was involved in the Days Gone port, but I heard there is some similarities between the two. Not sure if it's the writers or someone involved studio wise between Bend Studio and the one that did The Last of Us. That said, Days Gone is a perfect port.

Thanks for your opinion.

Metacritic scores:
- The reviews from gaming sites lean on stellar, 93% from 121 sites.
- User Score: 5.8 from 161,120 ratings

Haven't played Part II and the divisiveness is surprising.
But I like games so much that I suppose I'll fall in the 1st group (hopefully) .

What a shame. One of the best console experiences ever. Would work well on a PC and ought to be pretty perfect, now. Bah. Some serious laziness going on, it seems.

Good thing there are Steam reviews. EGS uses the ratings from the PlayStation release last year. They can't even be bothered to list the dates for the three posted reviews.

The 2 hour and 1 minute build time is so you can't refund it on Steam.

The studio that handled this port is well known for being the *WORST* porting studio in the industry - but from what I seen the game probably has some issues somewhere else if it compiles shaders for upwards of an hour. That is 100% going to exceed the 4gb limit for shader cache in the driver too Would be wild if that were the case of the issues heh
