Steam Dropping Windows 7/8 Next Year

Valve announces that at the start of next year, Steam will discontinue support for Windows 7 and Windows 8:
As of January 1 2024, Steam will officially stop supporting the Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 operating systems. After that date, the Steam Client will no longer run on those versions of Windows. In order to continue running Steam and any games or other products purchased through Steam, users will need to update to a more recent version of Windows.

The newest features in Steam rely on an embedded version of Google Chrome, which no longer functions on older versions of Windows. In addition, future versions of Steam will require Windows feature and security updates only present in Windows 10 and above.

There's nothing wrong with Windows 10. Plenty of websites tell you how to disable things concerning privacy.

I've never had Windows itself throw a BSOD. NVIDIA caused one once, which they acknowledged as their mistake and quickly fixed. As experiences go, Windows 10 64-bit is the most stable OS. It's a solid OS for gaming, and I highly recommend it.

If you require Win7 for legacy apps, it's probably better to set up a second offline machine for that specific need. Meanwhile, Win10 is your primary OS. Continuing to use Win7 has significant security drawbacks.

Its been EOL for like 3 years now. Its long past time to stop supporting it.

It's also absolutely not true, legally speaking. It's just a myth that's been propagated for so long that most believe it now.

Maybe with Quarterdeck Expanded Memory Manager (QEMM).

Let's kick it, old school.

And, you can *have* functioning games without launchers even if you don't *own* them as a backup safety.
Also I have a thousand Steam games that don't require the Steam interface: just run the .exes.

Actually just managed to install it using the normal media creation tool from Microsoft. It didn't even tell me my CPU wasn't good enough, it just installed. I guess that PC Health Check thing is either out of date or is just there to discourage people from trying.

They eased up the requirement awhile ago since TPM isn't a default UEFI flag on a lot of systems that meet the requirement and it was causing confusion in the industry. I don't think they ever updated the PC Health App.

I still have the watermark on my screen telling me that while I am indeed runnning win 11, my CPU doesnt support it. I have yet to have any trouble....but the watermark in the bottom right of the screen is a little anmoying.

5 years old CPU....I mean seriously...WTF am I thinking.... :-eyeroll-:

You can regedit that out I believe.

Mine has no TPM and Windows 11 installed just fine on it, it's never complained about it (B550 mobo / 3700x processor). How old is your motherboard/processor?

This is what the WIndows 11 PC specs check app tells me

Same thing I get with my i7-7700HQ. Sure, the processors only 5 years old, but it can't run Windows 11.

Your cpu base freq is 4GHz, how can you even sleep at night - much less even surf the web.
Not to mention the cpu probably does not comply with required security enhancements.
