I never carried one and I am sure I don't even own one. I can't remember the last time I encountered a NIC that doesn't do Tx/Rx auto-negotiation. Even cheapass Realtek chipsets do it.

I remember connecting two PCs with a cat5 when I was young and wondering why it wouldn't work.

Cat5? The luxury! I had 10Base2 with BNC connectors and I was thankful if I correctly teed them.
We had onions on our belt, which was the style at the time. Kept banging in to the crimpers.
