trailer for Lords of the Fallen highlights advanced character
customization, real time lighting of complex environments, and other advances.
There's also a
State of Unreal Trailer for Senua's Saga: Hellblade II looking at
next-level real-time facial animation that jumps clean over the uncanny valley.

You should watch the Meta-Human project video. It shows how they have come so far in getting facial rigs in-engine with extreme fidelity. Also shows the critics of the eyes and lip comments to be, oh ya ... I knew it was fake ... to be suspect.

Yeah the eyes were not a problem for me - but the mouth/lips didn't seem right. They seemed telegraphed/exaggerated somehow.
I would really like to have Gary Oldman wearing a facial rig while his younger 3D model yells, "EVERYONE!!!!!"

They really need to put whoever is in charge of AriZona iced tea in control of inflation...
I know I'm not very sophisticated and I'm not a graphics whore but that video fucking amazed me. I recently watched an a Unreal 5 demo of a programmer iteration of GTA Vice City and at times I couldn't believe that it wasn't a live action movie. I give Epic a lot of shit but boy howdy does it look like they hit a grand slam with this new engine.

I think that just may be a style choice for the Senua video... The realtime facial animation video from the Epic stream yesterday had blinking captured fine, they captured the acting realtime using an iPhone and imported it into the software in about 5 minutes total, and had it working on various Metahuman facial rigs (which they also say that her Metahuman face model was captured using the phone earlier, which is what I really want to see, to see how much cleanup had to be done). It was pretty cool to watch, and will be impressive if it works as advertised.
It's a lot better, but you can still tell it's CGI... and as long as you can tell it's CGI while it's trying to convince you it's not CGI, that uncanny valley remains

I mean, the not blinking is clearly an artistic choice, not a limitation.

Right at the beginning she blinks a couple of times and she has her eyes closed for a full 15 seconds before she starts her 30 seconds "intense speech" bit (with the texture change); can't say that I find anything weird with that (also not different from any staring contest). ...or did you not notice that it's the in-game model from the start
(you can see Melina, the actress, and her setup for full 4 seconds at the very end).Besides I found it already pretty convincing in the first Hellblade game, though not perfect, so it can only get better with the newer tech

Re: Lords of the Fallen video, looks very pretty but they notice they don't showcase anything about environmental destruction. Chances are it'll be the same static environments, 99% indestructible or deformable except for the scripted events, with a few barrels and obligatory and unexplainable boxes scattered around as a poor alternative. Like running through a theme park and beating to death the mascots you come across.
