Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Ending This Year

Electronic Arts announces the sun is setting on three Battlefield games on December 8th, so they will be removed from sale on April 28th. One of these, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is available for PC, while the others, Battlefield: Bad Company and Battlefield 1943, were only released on consoles. An early version of the announcement also said Mirror's Edge would be delisted next month, but a subsequent tweet clarifies this was an error: "An earlier version of this announcement included Mirror's Edge. That was an error. We currently have no plans to remove Mirror’s Edge from digital storefronts." Here's word:
As we close in on 15 years since the release of Battlefield 1943, and Bad Company™ 1 & 2, we are announcing that their journey is coming to an end.

Starting April 28 2023, Battlefield 1943, Battlefield: Bad Company 1 & 2 will be removed from digital storefronts and you will no longer be able to purchase them. This is in preparation for the retirement of the online services for these titles which will happen on December 8 2023. For Bad Company 1 & 2, you can still continue playing them and use their respective offline features, such as the single player campaign. You can also read our FAQ and Service Updates for further information on the retirement of online services.

While these titles hold a special place in our heart, we’re now looking forward to creating new memories alongside you as we shift our focus towards our current and future Battlefield experiences.

BF:BC2 was one of the last good Battlefields in this gamer's opinion.

BC2 was one of the best FPS I ever played online, DICE never really topped it, maybe with BF3 but hardly. RIP.

I'm pretty sure BC2 was the last BF game I actually purchased (not including bundle fare which included BF3 at some point). It was solid, but none of them have recaptured the janky magic of the original BF1942. IMHO ofc.

Rush was so fun. They haven't been able to replicate that fun with Rush in the newer games.

I played the crap out of BF1942 with the Desert Combat mod, in multi with a local friend, and sometimes with bots, sometimes with actual folks. So much silly fun. That's also where I started using what is now my Steam name (well, a long while into playing DC).

I was in a top DC clan for a minute or two... The Final Stand.
And I remember at a local big LAN party me and a friend also in the clan won a helicopter 1v1 tourny (well 2v2 including pilot and nose gunner).
I got a glass mouse pad as the prize that I still have lol

I played the hell out of the single player campaign. Just loaded it up for old time's sake and it's still fun. Dumb af, but great fun. Probably my favourite BF game, although I did have a great time with the original BF1942.

"Portal" for BF2042 was just a gimmick of a value-add, announced just before the disastrous launch, promising remastered BF content. For a minute there, I thought EA was going to bring the legendary content of BC2 into a new era.

Nope.

BFBC2 is still the only BF game with a fully destructible environment? I know that some parts of BF 2042 are, but most of it is not.

BC2 was the top for them - it's been downhill ever since.

I doubt it's coincidence that it was the last one before the idea of 'games as a service' started to gain traction, along with dozens of DLC and microtransactions to feed a steady cash drip to the developers. Prior to that they tried to make the best possible game, as it had to stand on its own merits. After that they tried to make the best possible framework for monetization.

I think it is the only one with physics-based destructible environments. The others have designated 'destructible' points that collapse in carefully planned ways.

BF1942 demo was amazing for me to buy the full game and even its Secret Weapons addon! Then, came the mods. Good stuff.

BF BC2 is legend. How does EA not "get" what made it so great? New BF's mostly suck. And with suck they are really, really bad. not even going to start about MoH and how they butchered that. The developers and artists at EA have immense talent, the upper management not so much. EA has soon almost killed as many games as Google did services and that is quite a bit.

BC2 really was the best. Sad to see the series decline after that.
