We went hiking yesterday. My wife says, "I could never go hiking anywhere that had bears" out of the blue. We live on an island and the nearest bear is 3000 miles away. The largest fauna on the island are wild pigs. Oddly, a few minutes later we ran into a little 20 pounder rooting around in the leaves under the guava trees. I suspect it was someone's pet that had escaped (or was just on an adventure). First it was a light brown, and the wild pigs here are black. Second, it was completely undisturbed by people talking and walking by, whereas my other chance encounters with wild pigs have them bolting into the woods as soon as they hear you. Third it's tail was continuously wagging, a behavior I've never seen in a wild pig before.
