Congrats! Loved the Forest, though even when i purchased it years after its initial release it was still bug infested, so i'll try and hold off for a little bit.

It's certainly got some bugs, but nothing too obstructive in the 15 hours I've played so far. The worst was probably getting stuck in the animation of holding up my backpack (this game’s immersive weapon wheel), which I think happened because I took a staggering hit from an enemy at that same moment. I was able to select an item while it looped back and forth in the corner of the screen, momentarily flashing white outlines of the items beneath the cursor, to get out of it. My favorite bug so far, though, is the force of a chopped tree falling in the water combines with the buoyancy of the logs to send them bouncing 100 feet in the air. XD

The logs one is great. Especially when Kelvin is doing it in the distance, and you suddenly see a bunch of logs jumping into the air. But yeah, I've also had the animation stick issue a few times. Most of the time I've been able to get out of it, but one time I was harvesting a rabbit and got stuck, couldn't get out. No keypress worked (other than esc, which doesn't help), and the other people in my game couldn't interact with me. We had to bail and reload from save.

Also had the bug where Kelvin goes down, but doesn't give you the option to revive him. Reloading the save just put him into a dead state. Luckily I found a reddit thread on how to revive him, so he's back. He's a bit buggy, but it's nice to have him cut trees and shit, so hopefully he doesn't bug out again.

Otherwise having a lot of fun with the game. Still haven't really got much into the story, but the seasons change is a a nice touch. Winter is coming (and makes things considerably more challenging).

for $30 this game is cheap enough to where you can just get it and not worry about it. Good move for the developers, considering some other boneheaded moves like charging $50 for early access and stuff like that

The Forest was good (but simple) at the start and only got better over time. This is an easy buy if you're into games that you can mess around with a few times over the years as they change.

It sells because the devs know how to release an early access game. They take the feedback from the early adopters and make a great 1.0 for the rest of us. That's how you do it. I'm happy to see that all their hard work and dedication is paying off. Puts triple-A to shame

I have no real opinion about this game, but it does look like one of typical "survival" steam releases that gets huge initial momentum, then peters off really quick and is ultimately abandoned in an unsatisfying, bug ridden state a year or two later. Worth a Buy review pretty much sums it up... looks good, has potential, you might find it fun, but it's a buggy mess and may not get finished to your satisfaction.

Bought it because I loved the first one and wanted to support the developer. Now I will wait at least a year, more likely two, for the game to get finished. The same will happen with Bethesda's Starfield but this will cost more than twice and will be a DLC vehicle (buy horse robot armor NOW!).

Ill be honest, I tried it for about 2 hours and it didn't really do much for me. I'm more into games like Vallhiem and the practicality and ease of that game and games like it when it comes to builder type games and surviving.

This game just left me feeling like I was doing way more work then what was really needed when it came to making a shelter or a fire. I played this with a friend and he left feeling the same way.

More power to those who do like this style and grind, but it just wasn't for me.

I actually found Valheim to be much more grindy than The Forest (at least the original). Although it's been a while since i played The Forest, i remember I spent most of my time exploring rather than base building. Where-as Valheim was a lot of grinding to unlock the next area (especially the swamp runs for iron/mud or whatever it was), then being unable to teleport with it and having to boat run after boat run.

Actually, i recall one of my biggest complaints for The Forest was there wasn't enough survival or need for base building. Maybe this is different in SOTF?

That said, I actually really enjoyed both, but it's disappointing that Valheim was so successful and then the dev's pretty much disappearing instead of taking advantage of their initial popularity.

Green Hell and Conan Exiles are also awesome survival games IMO, and all have co-op!

And whilst i wasn't a fan of Grounded, more games need to use the storage and inventory sorting system found there. Spending so much of your time micro managing / sorting / searching for crap in chests needs to go.

The devs haven't disappeared, they just brought out a large update recently. and are still working on another large update.

They have not disappeared!

I'll probably get this in a few months, but only because I have a few RL friends who are really into survival games. I wouldn't bother with it if I had to play alone.

Yeah, definitely not a genre to play alone. However, Subnautica was quite fun alone, but couldn't help but feel how much more fun it would be in co-op. I have friends that played The Forest alone and their experience was much different than mine. I always played with 1 or 2 additional people, which just made it so much better. That's what I would recommend

Not really. The "survival" aspects of the game are really basic, at best. You can build bases and hunt for food, etc, but there's certainly no requirement to. The pre-existing loot seems to respawn, so you end up buried in MREs, Energy Bars/Drinks, and most of the crafting materials. And there are random camps with tents all over the island which you can use to save and sleep. It's a little disappointing it's so generous on that front, because I prefer games with harder survival elements.
