Ukraine's Atomic Heart Attack

The Government of Ukraine plans to petition Valve, Microsoft, and Sony to remove Atomic Heart from digital stores in Ukraine, and will ask platform holders to consider “limiting distribution” of the game in other countries. At heart of the matter are the new first-person shooter's Russian roots. There are allegations that sales of the game directly benefit the Russian government and that the game is possibly being used to harvest user data. Ukrainian tech website Dev.au first reported on this, and PCGamesN has a statement in English directly from the Ukraine government:
“Regarding the situation with the release of the game Atomic Heart, which has Russian roots and romanticises communist ideology and the Soviet Union, The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine will send an official letter to Sony, Microsoft, and Valve requesting a ban on selling digital versions of this game in Ukraine,” says Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation, Alex Bornyakov.

“We also urge limiting the distribution of this game in other countries due to its toxicity, potential data collection of users, and the potential use of money raised from game purchases to conduct a war against Ukraine.”

“According to media reports, the game’s development was funded by Russian enterprises,” the statement continues. “Therefore, we call for all users worldwide to avoid this game. We also want to emphasise that the game developers have not publicly condemned the Putin regime and the bloody war that Russia has unleashed against Ukraine.”

Wait, what, money, mouth, war, incinerated?
I'm exhausted just reading this, not to mention no idea what your talking about.
I'm going to guess you didn't know there was a war going on in Ukraine?
While certainly wishing I was rich enough to fund Ukraine, if your thinking of a GoFundMe or Patron for them, there's probably already something.
Incinerated, not to say we should take it seriously but an accurate percentage is around 1%.

I find it funny that people are shitting all over the Russian people, making sweeping generalizations about the population - including saying that they are all complicit in this "illegal fucking war." You realize the U.S. has been bombing the fuck out of the middle east, killing countless innocents, assassinating leaders, blowing up weddings in Yemen, etc. Every tax dollar that you have spent is a piece of shrapnel in their corpses. Every ad you watch on a major news network is money in the pockets of defense contractors who will do or say anything to keep us embroiled in forever wars. We don't care though.

We just love a good Red Scare. Get on top of your fucking soap boxes when "Dmitry" makes a game, but hide in your caves and play WoW when Uncle Sam is having the time of his life war-criming the fuck out of anyone he wants to.

NATO can fuck off for pushing everyone to the edge, Russia can fuck off for obviously everything it's done. From what I've read this game does NOT glorify communism or socialism or the soviet union. Even if it did, it's a fucking piece of art, and communism and socialism are valid politico-philosophical systems to discuss. Sorry, ancaps. Also, Ukrainians were systematically slaughtering Russian speaking people in eastern Ukraine for YEARS before this war happened.

AFAIK studios get a base amount just for being on the platform, and then more based on "performance".

The ripple effects of Russia's war in Ukraine continue to change the world NPR
/snip
A year after Russia's invasion of Ukraine sparked the largest conflict in Europe since World War II, the repercussions continue to reverberate around the world. Not only has the war in Ukraine set off a geopolitical realignment, but it has caused economic hardship far from the epicenter of the fighting.

The Feb. 24, 2022, invasion has touched off a refugee crisis, as Ukrainians flee the conflict in their homeland and many Russian men seek to avoid conscription. Meanwhile, it has spurred a process toward expanding NATO, with Finland and Sweden pursuing membership after decades of official neutrality.

Dude the game was in development since around 2019 - there is no connection to the war on Ukraine, except that it's a Russian dev studio, but not all Russians are pro war or pro current government. Yeah they had to move the studio to Cyprus because of the sanctions, I'd do that to if all my work on a game was threatened. As much as I disagree with Russia's attack on Ukraine, I do not feel the need to automatically vilify all people or works from that country.

Not for nothing but Russia has been planning on this since before 2019... They took over Crimea in 2014 and weren't going to just stop there. In fact, they already laid out the plans to take over the other neighboring countries following Ukraine.

So does that not mean, if another game is in production right this very minute, and Russian invades, oh, I don't know, Belarus, Moldova, Estonia, Latvia in the next 2-3 years, was the intent of the developers to help with the funding in years to come? Hard to tell, because again, we don't want to relate gaming and something people created for the good of the world, to something so horrific. Though this is Russia we're talking about, probably one of the most corrupt and deceptive countries on the planet. Everything has a purpose and with that government involved, nothing should be ruled out.

The purpose of embargoes is not to vilify a group of people, it is to apply pressure to a country to change their policies. Countries are made up of people. If a population agrees with everything their leaders do then nothing will ever change. Yes, everybody know that this company is not personally supplying arms to Russia for use against Ukraine. All the same this "vilification" does not compare to say having many of a countries major cites bombed into rubble.

Hogwarts legacy is very different from atomic heart. One is where a single person makes dumb comments affecting trans people. The other is where there is an active embargo against Russia as a means to pressure the government fighting an illegal war. Cyprus only came into the picture to bypass the embargo. So the basis of the game is fraudulent. Pirate the game if you want but even that has been shown to support the popularity of games.

"Don't feel the need to automatically vilify all people or works from that country" Welp, sorry, but that's what happens to a country when they START A FUCKING WAR. Sorry Dmitry, I'm not gonna give you one fucking cent because your warmongering government will bite a chunk off that cent and turn it into a bullet. Also, fuck you, Dmitry. I know you're a victim of your garbage government too, but tell me to give a shit again when Russia stops invading, raping, and murdering innocents and pulling the entire world into WW3.

They are heavily invested in all kinds of random shit. It's like trying to not send any dollars to Unilever or some shit. The only way to not have any your money go to Russia is to not spend any of it except to pay your taxes (which at least funds Ukraine, the correct side of the war)
Do you have a single fact to back that up?
