Elden Ring Passes 20M Players

A tweet from FromSoftware reveals that Elden Ring has now encircled 20 million players. This leans on game lore, as they celebrate "20 million tarnished." The release of the challenging action/RPG came just under a year ago, making the milestone all the more impressive. In August it was announced the game had sold over 16.6 million copies, so the game has been continually selling like hotcakes since its release. Bandai Namco also sent out a press release reflecting on the news:
Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. and FromSoftware, Inc. are pleased to announce that the co-developed action RPG ELDEN RING has shipped more than 20 million units worldwide. The title is available now on PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam®. For more information on the game, please visit www.bandainamcoent.com/games/elden-ring.

Since its release on February 25th, 2022, ELDEN RING continues to spark theories and discussions as “Tarnished” from all around the globe explore the Lands Between, piecing together characters and events to reveal a deep and mysterious lore.

Great game, but the control system definitely needed work on PC... as it was very clunky and cumbersome / consolised. I also felt the armor and spell progression offered well, very little progression, and stopped checking armor pieces very quickly.

The inbuilt coop system also flat out sucked, and the only reason i bought the same was because of the seemless co-op mod.

There is a "seamless coop" mod which works very well. You can all ride horses too

Also having a controller is a must imo. It doesn't feel clunky at all. It's a horrible experience on most and keyboard imo.

I never liked the Dark Souls games. They REEEEEEKED of consolitis, imo, and I've spent like 5 hours in Dark Souls 2 so this isn't coming from a place of ignorance. The only reason I bought Elden Ring was because I was quite in love with the looks of it in trailers -- the golden trees, the beautiful landscapes -- and man, am I glad that I did. It took me an hour or two to get into it but it was one of the best games I've ever played. I also wonder if I'm slightly autistic, because I started out with the broadsword and couldn't get into anything else. I still argue that that weapon is the best weapon in the game, with that ability that thrusts the weapon forward from an almost kneeled position -- I can't remember the skill name.

Cheat Engine, as with any game:
1 click SpeedHack instant slow down slider (define your hotkey).
Be Matrix's Neo. Or have your personal multiuse magic scroll, do anything.

Also many other helpers/trainers:

Easy Mode for Elden Ring - nexusmods.com
Reduce 50% Damage. Increase 25% Attack. 10x Rune 2X Player Hit Radious 2xCrimson, etc.

Elden Ring is an action role playing game so no it doesn't have a slowdown mechanic from a tower defense game. It's difficulty is well balanced and the player naturally improves their power and reduces the difficulty curve as they play. It is not like other From Software games, there are few skill check bosses.

I know you're being sarcastic, but I would not have played Elden Ring if it wasn't for the 3-player co-op.

Give me more co-op games (especially 3 or 4 player co-op)!

I also am a wimp and suck at certain kinds of games.
Never ocurred to me to try and convince others that they are worthless though.

DS games are up there with my all time favorites.
You don't need to feel excluded, try mods and treat yourself.

The crappy FPS cap and lack of wide screen support also seemed like a major oversight, but again, mods to the rescue!

Overall still one of the best games i've played for a long while, and one the very few AAA games that could justify it's high price.

That said, i still preferred Nioh 2, and hope that the upcoming 'Wo Long' is just as good!

Grats to them though, and hopefully we see more games of this calibre.

Definitely get an XBox controller for this one (and anything recent by CDProjeckt eg Cyberpunk) - it's like night and day.

Also, I have gotten through much of the game but the repetitive killzones are kind of a pain - I just downloaded the Nexus easy mode mod and will probably finish it up using them. It seems to be a conceit to make the game 'so hard, bro'. Making it easier and more accessible would make it even more fun. Play it on Easy, then go back for the full experience on default.

So I guess their mech game will be coming out soon, then hopefully bloodborne remaster will hit PC. After that, hope fromsoft announces their next title in the genre.

For sekiro, fantastic world building, but to play it well you have to have instant reactions. I was eventually able to beat it but only by forcing bosses to make predictable moves.

As for the elden ring world, the game proves that not every game has to fit in the ubi open world hand holding formula.

Bloodborne really deserves a PC release so that it can run at a solid 60fps. It's an amazing theme and fun combat once you get the hang of it, as a shield player in darksouls it was tough for me to adjust at first lol. But on playstation, the game is unable to even hold a steady 30fps, which for faster paced game is jarring.

... and the promised ray tracing

20m seems like a low number for how good Elden Ring is. I'm sure it won't stop selling any time soon, but it deserves to be on every gamer's device.

For one it was so refreshing to just play a game on release that's finished and balanced. So much of gaming has felt like beta testing on the last 5 years.

Love the art direction of this game, but was quite frustrated with DS1, so I've taken a pass on this genre since then. Would like to try it, but it sounds like it would take more than 2 hours to get good enough to figure out if it is for me.

It's not like their other games, you just have to try it and see how things go. Whenever you a difficulty wall, go somewhere else. And stay out of Caelid for awhile

Great game, especially if you used the Nexus mod that makes you an indestructible god...;) I've enjoyed not having to worry over defeat while going anywhere I want to, to check out the lay of the land. I also use the 144 fps/disable anti-cheat exe--it's single player only, of course, but that's my preferred way to play, anyway.
It is well known that I cannot err--and so, if you should happen across an error in anything I have written you can be absolutely sure that *I* did not write it!...;)

This is open world Dark Souls, "it's just too hard" doesn't really apply anymore. They still challenge you and even straight-up troll you at times, but the fact that you can go anywhere and do whatever you want makes it inherently the most accessible game they've ever released. You almost always have an alternate path to take when one particular area is giving you trouble, and in general there is so much content laid out in a non-linear fashion that you WILL become overwhelmingly powerful just by playing normally (rather than resorting to contrived XP farming methods as in previous games). And if all else fails, you can cheese a majority of combat by staying mounted on your supernatural horse that gallops forever and freaking double-jumps! Not to say I guarantee anyone can beat the entire game, but there are dozens of hours of solid gameplay here just in the exploration of the overworld, even for people who generally aren't fans of Soulsborne games. You don't sell 20 million copies to a hardcore niche... This game is mainstream, man.
