Ubisoft Working with UK Police

BBC News has details on a deal with local British law enforcement to directly report potentially dangerous chat within Ubisoft games. Word is hardly any cases the Northumbria Police tackle require direct intervention. So hopefully this won't just turn into a SWAT fest. Here's word:
Firstly, it sees specialist officers share their knowledge and expertise on harmful online interactions with the 200-strong team working at the centre in Newcastle, who then apply that training to their daily work.

Secondly, an agreement is in place so that in extreme cases, where there is a threat to life or potential serious harm spotted, staff can fast track the information to police.

They will then decide whether or not to act.

Yea, most cops are not bad apples. The problem is that most cops protect the bad apples. Case in point is Blue's accident.
How was the cop in Blue’s accident a bad Apple?

'so called law enforcement' - would you rather there be no law enforcement?

In many places, there might as well not be. Case in point. Where I live, there's at minimum a 20 minute delay from a phone call to an actual cop showing up on site. In that 20 minutes, quite a great deal can go down. They just show up to write the after action report at that point.

No, but I have family members who did. You know what they all, to a person, said? "Don't trust the cops. Cops are not your friends."

So when you have actual members of the police telling you not to trust cops, maybe the rot runs a lot deeper than just a "few bad apples", no?

The article kind of does a shit job of explaining what's being done.

Ubisoft has an online toxicity operation for its games (Ubisoft Customer Relationship Centre) that apparently has a 200 staff headquartered in Newcastle, England.
Of the already small amount of reports that would end up getting analyzed by this operation, 0.01% of those are things they feel they should contact the police about.
Because they're based in Newcastle, England, but are dealing with reports from around the world... They've signed a deal with their own local police, to help them with those situations... which would basically amount to having them (Northumbria Police) contact the police agency of the area with the situation.

Ubisoft kind of put themselves in a position where they must do this, because if they're analyzing messages and one of them is threatening actionable/credible/real violence... it's gotta be reported.

"Rape jokes, racism, bullying..." just some of the things the British Police are well known for, along with actual rape and murder of course.

One of them was just sentenced to 36 life terms yesterday for offences against a dozen women over two decades.

Ubisoft would be better sharing the chat with the local mums net than our so called law enforcement!

Wow, good on you tarring the whole police force based on a few people.

'so called law enforcement' - would you rather there be no law enforcement?

You do understand that law enforcement is done by humans .... humans do all kinds of thing ... in a work force of tens of thousands of people you will always be able to point to the worst of them and stain the others, how does that help anything?

Have you worked in law enforcement before?
I'd be more concerned with the fact the UK police force are notoriously bad for tackling actual crimes and instead go after low hanging fruit like edgy teenagers cussing in online games.

Seems kind of ironic given their Watch Dogs franchise.
