New System Shock Demo

As part of the Steam Next Fest mentioned below, Nightdive Studios is offering a new playable demo on Steam for System Shock, the upcoming remake of the classic action/RPG. Word is: "Join us during the Steam Next Fest, where you will experience the power of true artificial intelligence as you play the latest version of System Shock. But be warned, players: the game you are about to play at Steam Next Fest is just a glimpse into the world we’ve created for you." It's been a few decades, so here's a refresher so no one finds this a shock to their system:
System Shock is the fully fledged remake of the ground breaking original from 1994, combining cult gameplay with all-new HD visuals, updated controls, an overhauled interface and all-new sounds & music; it even has the original voice actor of SHODAN, one of gaming’s most iconic villains. Witness the rebirth of one of the greatest and most influential games ever created.

These graphics are a total turn off for me, looks like an indie game or something. Quite disappointing but not all that surprising considering the clown party of development this reboot has had. Hard pass.

I read these comments before watching the video...
I'm not sure you guys know what PS1/2 graphics look like.

I'll be honest, I didn't watch the video as I really wanted this to be good. I just downloaded it, maxed it on settings without DLSS and got as far as the first zombie/mutant/infected before posting. I've watched the video now and it's a bit of a catfish.

Why does it look like this? I don't remember the first demo looking this low res.

The first sneak peek actually looked worse. Much worse. The art style is a conscious decision to harken back to the original.

Okay ... what ... are they doing?

I've got all settings maxed and this seriously looks like it could be running at 320x280 with AA to smooth out the jagged edges.

Whoever said this could be running on a PS1 is absolutely correct. Why does it look like this? I don't remember the first demo looking this low res.

Uh wow, it's actually quite good. They basically updated everything and went retro with some of the textures, the visual blend works really well. Loving this so far and it wasn't even on my radar before. Highly recommend people download the demo and check it out.

Same here, coming fresh from a System Shock 1994 replay, this new game hit all the right buttons for me. Hopefully the vomit inducing melee camera movements can be disabled as an option though.

Their Blade Runner debacle shook my confidence a little bit but I still have high hopes for this. Downloading now, fingers crossed.

No interest in another dumb video and another demo. Just finish the game, make it good and I'll buy. It's starting to feel longer than Duke Nuken 3D to make.

Unless you're referring to Duke Nukem Forever, I'm unaware of a Duke Nukem 3D remake.

This title has been all over the place for so long. I had originally backed it, will be good to see it finally released.

I played the original way back then so I know this is the updated version but this looks like a PS2 game with a broader colour palette. I really can't see this appealing to any new players and the amount of us old timers still playing must be a very small audience. Pity because it was a great game.

Sweet. I'll probably check it when I get home. I tried the early alpha version and it was quite rough around the edges. It looked good visually, but everything else was very meh. Looking forward to seeing how much it's progressed since then.
