Out of the Blue

This annual first Sunday of the season with no tackle football is always tough for an NFL fan. It's a stark reminder of the football-free future that will follow next week's Super Bowl. Of course the annual Pro Bowl is scheduled for this afternoon. So yeah, as I say, today is the first Sunday of the season with no tackle football. Boo hoo.

Actually this is the main reason why these types of viruses don't spread. They kill their hosts way too efficiently and quickly for them to become a pandemic threat. When I say WHO should do their job, I mean they should keep their mouths shut and do their job, hence my reference to them "crying wolf". It feeds the antivaxxer and pandemic denier rhetoric.
Well, that would depend on how quickly it killed. And when people were able to transmit it. But yes, you are correct -- a high fatality rate reduces the transmission chances.

That would cause some supply problems if it became as communicable as covid-19 was...

Just watched a test video by someone who I trust (its not in English, so I won't link it unless you would like to watch it nevertheless). In short: AMAZING game, but the pc version is technically in early access state. An RTX 3080 in combination with a Ryzen 5900x and 32GB of RAM (a 2080 is recommended for WQHD at ultra quality for 60fps gaming) goes down into single digits in come scenes at 1440p (no RT). And nevertheless, when they did the same sequence again, it ran at 60fps... Something is not quite right. There were few real bugs he noticed, though. An invisible wizard at Hogsmeade was the worst thing he came across, so it the quality of the game itself seems to be really good. He played for roughly 40hrs and the game crashed twice - which is acceptable IMO. He absolutely loves the game and is therefore really furious about the technical problems. Such a great game that might have a not so great welcome because the performance is very wonky.
The publishers told the testers there would be a patch for the test version delivered the last weekend - did not happen. For today, they announced a special RT patch that has not arrived either yet. So be prepared for a great game with huge performance problems for most people who have no 4090 to run this.
They also tested the PS5 version which ran perfectly fine, so it seems to be a problem with the pc port.

Bird flu has been on the radar for what seems like more than a decade now. Then Covid hit. Seems to me like maybe, just maybe, WHO should stop crying wolf and concentrate on doing their job a little bit better.

I mean, that's what they're doing:
The World Health Organization (WHO) has documented 240 cases of H5N1 avian influenza within four Western Pacific countries — including China, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam — over the last two decades. More than half of the infected individuals died.

Global WHO figures show more than 870 human cases were reported from 2003 to 2022, along with at least 450 deaths — a fatality rate of more than 50 per cent.

Tracking this is their job. Most viruses don't come like COVID and hit almost overnight, though some do. Most are slower burns
