Endnight Games and Newnight announce a change in release plans for Sons
Of The Forest, the upcoming third-person survival/horror sequel. The game
has been delayed a couple of
times already, and was most
recently expected on February 23rd. After suffering another setback, the plan to
launch the game on that date remains in place, but the launch will now be
considered an Early Access release:
It’s been a long journey since we first started ‘Sons of The Forest’ development and it’s grown into the biggest most complex game we have ever made. There is still so much more we want to add; items, new mechanics, gameplay balance and more. We didn’t want to delay again so have instead decided to involve the community in the continued development of this project and keep our February 23rd release date but instead release in Early Access.
‘The Forest’ turned out to be a massive success, due mostly to the awesome community and the suggestions, feedback, and bug reports the players shared with us. We are really excited and hope that players want to come on this new journey with us to make this the ultimate survival horror simulator.

I started "The Forest" a few weeks ago, but I guess my problem is that I don't "get" survival games. They just seem too open ended which leads me to lack direction and focus about what I should be doing - up to the inevitable wipe out.
The lack of direction was one of the main weaknesses of the game. I hate using walkthroughs, but I had to use one for The Forest to help me get through when I got stuck. If I remember correctly, there were some necessary items that were quite easily overlooked. I don't mind a lack of direction in an open world sandbox game, but that's not what The Forest is. Having said that, even though I had to occasionally consult a walkthrough, I enjoyed the game immensely. It's quite creepy.

I don't mind them going EA, it worked for them before. They built a lot of the game around player feedback, and it turned out pretty darn good
Great. Another EA game. I was looking forward to playing this, but not this year I guess. Surely they've made enough money to fund this game from The Forest sales. Looks like they're just looking for free beta testers for this one. Good luck to them, I guess. I'll wait until it's done.
