I swore by Samsung. I've owned both Evos and Pros. But the situation with the 980 & 990 pros is turning into a fiasco. It's not helping that they aren't trying to get out ahead of this and make some statement that they are looking into it. Also doesn't help that people are claiming they're getting their same RMA'd drive back, that's been factory reset and a notification that there's nothing wrong with it.

On another note, I have purchased a couple of Sabrent drives recently, and they are solid drives with great performance. I have a Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus in my gaming machine, and that thing is wicked fast
It can easily turn into a public relations nightmare.
First, send the customer a brand new drive with an apology and ask them to try it.
Next, let the customer know that they are thoroughly investigating the drive you sent them.
Thirdly, when the brand new drive once again exhibits the same issue and its been deteremined to be a Samsung Problem offer the customer an upgrade for free and make a public announcement that there is a firmware fix on the way and maybe even recall them or temporarily halt sales.
Fourthly, Do Some Quality Control for chrissakes.

I've had nothing but success with Samsung SSDs. I never go with the Pro models though.

Weirdly enough, the Pioneer branded (Yes, the audio company) 1TB NVMe SSD I picked up for $60 on sale has been a speedy, reliable drive. It's essentially a Phison E12 with Micron 3D NAND on it.

If they ever decide to make an internal NVMe drive that is larger than 2TB, I would definitely consider them in the future. The PCIE3.0 "limit" doesn't really bother me because the board I have only has one 4.0 M2 slot which the 980 Pro I have sits in. The M2 slot that the Pioneer sits in is 3.0.

Glad I didn't go with a 980 Pro and got a much cheaper KC3000 instead.

Fuck Samsung. I used to be a mostly happy customer but enough is enough. Almost every single generation has one issue or another. The 840s lost speed because of aging data and it took many firmware updates to fix (at the expense of increased writes to refresh the data), the 870 had massive issues with high failure rates for a while, the 980 Pro has had completely unacceptable issues for a so called "Pro" drive and now the all new 990 Pro (which I own myself) is losing drive "health" at an increased rate.

I have also had a Samsung 970 EVO and a 970 EVO Plus. The regular 970 EVO had media and data integrity errors so I had no choice but to trash that drive when I replaced it with a 990 Pro because you can not sell a used drive with such defects even if it is not having any issues.

Enough is enough. Samsung is cheap garbage and they should probably stick to microwaves and fridges instead of fumbling with advanced tech that they do not understand.
