No More Back 4 Blood Content [Feb 02, 2023, 8:07 pm ET] – Share – Viewing Comments

announces that it's working on a new game. The bad news is that this means
an end to active development on Back 4 Blood. This does not mean the
co-op shooter is left for dead, but it does mean no new content is in the works.
There are no details about the new game, but the developer says it may be a bit
quieter for a while as they work on it:
What an amazing year 2022 was for us. First off, we wanted to thank all of you for making Back 4 Blood what it is today. With three expansions – Tunnels of Terror, Children of the Worm, and River of Blood – we’ve traveled on a fantastic adventure together beyond the walls of Fort Hope. This phase of our war against the Ridden now comes to a close.
Turtle Rock Studios is actually pretty small for a studio making AAA games. We don’t have quite enough folks to continue working on Back 4 Blood content while we spin up another game – yes, another game! Given this, it’s time for us to put our heads down, get back in the lab, and get to work on the next big thing.
Intrepid Cleaners, this is not a goodbye.
Back 4 Blood will continue to operate, of course. In fact, Back 4 Blood is currently offered on PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tiers and available as part of Xbox Game Pass. You’ll also still find us hanging out in the SUBREDDIT and on DISCORD, as well as our official TWITTER, INSTAGRAM, FACEBOOK and WEBSITE because we love interacting with you and talking about our games.
While we may be a bit quieter in the short-term, we promise that we’ll be Back, bigger, bolder and better than ever!

It's an okay game, but my L4D2 crew and I got tired of it pretty quickly.
Why it will never be a L4D2 replacement is due to the fact that it has no mod support. Custom maps are what has kept L4D2 alive and fresh all these years. There are thousands of excellent custom campaigns out there, and we've played them all several times. And people are still making new ones.

Yeah I tend to agree Darks. The difficulty spikes and level pacing being so inconsistent made it a real slog at times. They went too wide with the cast and personalities too, you couldn't really get into it. There was something really off with the hitboxes on the specials too, hitting weak points was annoying. My group of friends beat it but we had no desire to revisit it whereas we logged hundreds of hours in L4D/L4D2. A real shame.

Still haven't picked this up but it's never shed it's "Mixed" review status on Steam so never really been tempted to bite (and the pre-release beta was pretty terrible). Even today, Left 4 Dead 2 still pulverizes it in regard to comparative active player counts.
The game was not all that great. I tried playing it Coop with some friends, we got thru the first act, and part of the second and gave up on the game. It didn't hold up well and the balance was all over the place.

It's a good game, I bought it after they removed the random card draw element and made your deck into basically a passive character build. It's not as streamlined and polished as L4D2, but there are some cool additions to and improvements on that formula here. I'm glad games such as this and World War Z exist, because as much as I loved Left 4 Dead back in the day (for hundreds of hours), it's nice to have something new.
