But what was even more shocking to me was that Horizon: Forbidden West had released, completely missed that ... must have been when Elden Ring dropped.

Well they did say that loadouts can be changed at will. That's a huge red flag right there. The point is, I can think of a million ways in which this fails spectacularly, and none in which it would improve the experience. Unless the gameplay is completely changed from the first game, it just doesn't belong in a game like this. Maybe there is a multiplayer pvp battle royale mode in the game where it fits, but I suspect it will be in the core game experience.
