Inherent RoRG was a classic, but that's baby stuff compared to what they've been doing lately. The last season I played, they had the teal-rarity mega ancient unique legendary whatever weapons, which were so powerful that they single-handedly defined your build and never needed replacing... Even if you found one around level 15 and its listed damage rating was garbage. They all had 8+ attributes including a huge skill damage bonus, a legendary affix AND a class passive, and multiple other crazy bonuses that would each individually define normal legendary weapons (like massive resource cost reduction, resource gain on crit, chance to CC, etc.). Some scaled even further in power based on Paragon levels, too.
But beyond the limited-time seasonal shenanigans, they've changed so much with the base game to drastically elevate all builds, such as more recently with the Follower system. They can now wear an entire set of items, same as you, and their abilities were reworked and scale in effect from their main stat. Several legendary items have had their powers marked with '(Emanates),' meaning that you gain the effect from your follower wearing them. So now it's a standard thing to have all the pylon/shrine bonuses, XP/gold/drop buffs, and additional CC or survivability without needing to sacrifice anything by integrating that stuff into your own build.
I also just found out last night about this new portal event (consuming a rare item drop in the Cube), like a wave-based horde mode where you try to survive for as long as possible and receive a Greater Rift-like chest at the end. The best thing from it though is the legendary gem that is used solely for enhancing ancient legendary items -- its level scales to how long you survived, up to 150, which saves you a ton of time and effort leveling up other gems the normal way to sacrifice for imbuing stat bonuses.
