But my mesa package is only 16MB* in size. Why do I need to download drivers that are hundreds of megabytes in size?

*OK, technically, with libs and some APIs it's closer to 40MB.

NVcleanstall is very effecient and arguably quicker than doing it manually. You can save your slimmed down setup for a smaller archive footprint too.
Dude, thank you.
I'm not really worried about the driver sizes and all that yada yada but I'm definitely going to look at that because you never know

Intel planning hundreds of job cuts.

Only hundreds? Those are rookie numbers.
That's only in California, we don't know what they're going to do in other places. And we only know about California because it's a communist country that has the WARN act. /Sarcasm
When compared with other companies’ layoffs of up to 10% of their workforces, Intel’s plan to sack 544 of its estimated 120,000 workers (0.5%) is a spectacularly small move. While this is a reasonably “meaningful number”, there remains the possibility of more layoffs in other regions.
A series of new entries in the California Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) database have uncovered Intel’s plans to lay off a number of workers in the area starting this month.

The WARN Act is designed to provide employees (and state and local representatives) 60 days’ notice prior to mass layoffs of plant closures, and it also gives outsiders a sneak peak of the goings on inside some of the world’s largest companies.

My solution to driver size creep is.. updating less often ^^

My solution is to manually weed out the drivers. This takes less than two minutes. You unzip the *.exe with 7-ZIP (or a similar unpacking tool). Then you CTRL+A all folders, then CTRL+left click the keepers, press DEL to delete the "bloat" and then you run Setup.exe. Easy-peasy slim driver installation.
Yes, there are tools for this but why bother? Tools can be buggy or have malware. Manual mode is safer, quicker and easy as child's play.

Otherwise, I don't really give a shit about feature creep. Except for the totally unnecessary telemetry bullshit, it is awesome that the drivers address just about any use case scenario for a wide variety of users across many generations of hardware in one simple package.
Nerds can easily pick & choose by manually weeding out the drivers or by using a tool of their choosing or download a repacked slim driver package if they trust the source. Perfect.

I read "Rentokil" as "rent-to-kill" and am now imagining cat sized Terminators.
