Who knows ? hopefully we could be pleasantly surprised in years, months, whatever.
WannaLogAlready wrote on Dec 13, 2022, 13:45:They have been informing themselves on fusion for over 50 years.
Why not give time to the scientists to inform themselves.
Mr. Tact wrote on Dec 13, 2022, 10:08:"The lasers produced 2.05 megajoules of energy, and the pellet released roughly 3.15 megajoules."Mr. Tact wrote on Dec 12, 2022, 21:06:Additionally, I heard on an NPR report the Livermore Lab can only fire the lasers once a day. The laser heats up focusing lenses which they have to allow to cool before firing again. Fantastic system guys. Personally, I'm thinking the over/under on fusion producing commercial power is probably something like 75 years.
Wasted a few minutes reading the WP article on the fusion "breakthrough", here is the pertinent part you need:...But it’s only a net energy gain at the micro level. The lasers used at the Livermore lab are only about 1 percent efficient...
WannaLogAlready wrote on Dec 13, 2022, 12:27:Funny that you should mention a professional like Anthony S. Fauci, M.D. and NIAID Director.
Thanks for you interesting viewpoint, but I'll put my focus on professional opinions.
Let's see what Fauci has to say.

Curious about The Abyss. 1080 versions have been out for a while via various means of arrrquirement. Are those just upscaled by third parties from a 480 source? Are the 4Ks full remasters? The article doesn't mention it outside of its breathless announcement.

Burrito of Peace wrote on Dec 12, 2022, 14:06:Yep. As I basically said in another topic about fusion, we have been seeing these breakthrough announcements for 50 years (probably longer). So, STFU -- until you build a device which can output more power than is input for a reasonable amount of time. Reasonable being hours for a lab table version, days (at a minimum) for a commercial sized device.
Meh. Wake me up when fusion power becomes an actual reality. Mass deployment is right up there with commonly available flying cars and solid state batteries*.
